Door fell on the chicken, options?

No pictures, unfortunately, perhaps this afternoon.. Also, I opened the coop door yesterday afternoon, and she *tried* to exit with the rest of the flock, made it to the door, stared out, then just laid down. So I have to think she's feeling somewhat better, but perhaps it's still too sore? I...

Door fell on the chicken, options?

Gah. Somewhat similar to the "Underfoot" thread, I've got an injured chicken... I was repairing the coop door and had taken it off and propped it on the side of the coop. It's made mostly of hardware cloth, but it's still heavy-ish, certainly much more than the hen. That said, I apparently...

Getting chickens OUT of the coop..

So I recently got chickens, and the weather around here was great. As it's been getting colder, the rain and wind have returned, I've decided to "close up" the coop. So I took those two boards on the ground, and they've been placed into each of the windows on the coop. (the mesh area...

Building a new coop, but have a few questions...

Thanks for all the input everyone. I ended up taking the roof off the nesting box, cutting a 1x3 to fit along the top edge of the nesting box, sealing around the edges, then attaching the roof to that. I also took the metal roofing off and put on roofing shingles. Should be pretty sealed up now...

    Do chickens peck/eat weatherstripping?

So it sounds like some chickens will peck at caulk, and some won't. Some will peck at insulation, and some won't. ... what about weatherstripping? I'm thinking about using some combination of foam weatherstripping and rubber weatherstripping, and if I do, some of it would end up being exposed...

Building a new coop, but have a few questions...

Hmmm.. so if I close up as many of the gaps as I can on the interior(e.g. with 1/4" Lauan board), is there still a concern of lice and mites between the gaps on the exterior side?

Building a new coop, but have a few questions...

Here's a picture of one of the larger gaps between the 1x6 boards. I'm thinking maybe I'll get sheets of 1/4" boards to nail to the back. In hindsight, I think it would've been cheaper, less drafty, and less work to have gone with plywood or OSB (plus, I wouldn't have to back each gap with more...

Building a new coop, but have a few questions...

So I finally (mostly) finished the coop, it took a little longer than I'd hoped, but it's pretty close now. Here're a couple pictures, followed by a new set of questions! :-D (Of course!) 1. Is there any benefit to having a roosting bar of sorts in the "run" area? If they're let out...

Building a new coop, but have a few questions...

Thanks for all the replies everyone, it's much appreciated. I'm getting close to completion, and unfortunately didn't take any pictures. Nevertheless, I've got some additional questions. 1. Nesting boxes -- I didn't do any research prior to designing the coop, and it appears there's...

Building a new coop, but have a few questions...

Hi all, I've been lurking for a bit while planning the coop, finally started building it and now I've got a few questions! :) I'm just outside of Seattle, WA, so the climate here is pretty mild generally (above freezing for most of the winter, under 90 for most of the summer). I'm not planning...
