don't have pics right now-crop is empty-not doughy or hard or puffy, no egg laying, tail up now as far as I can tell-her tail feathers were pecked off by the time I discovered her her back end was not initially. She was wormed 1 week ago the day I discovered her. I'll try some yogurt-she...
Hi everyone-
I have an ill bard rock ~ 2yrs old. 1 week ago she was pretty droopy and lethargic and I separated her from the flock. I gave her some vitamins and wormed her with safeguard. She is definitely perkier after a week but is not eating very much. Over the last week she would eat some...
So tonight I found one of my 2 yr old hens with a prolapsed vent. She was squatting and seemed to be trying to poop. I pushed her vent in and she passed a soft shell egg. So wondering if this is likely to happen again-the prolapsed vent....or did she spend a lot of the day trying to lay the egg...
Have a pretty mature flock-youngest hens are about 18 months old, oldest 4 yrs old. Got my first fart egg today...any concerns? Thinking it was a misstep for one of them...thoughts?
I have one looking pretty mangy too like yours, neck and wing feather missing but with quills left, she is being picked on...I've seen it...is your getting picked on? Just a thought
I had this happen to me one time and did exactly the same thing-when I did it took about 4-5 hours and she was eating and back to her old self, she is still here 3 yrs later, you likely saved her life-how is she doing today?
thanks was what I was thinking....have had chickens for about 3 yrs, not an expert by any means. This is the first time I encountered this. Curious to know I hear many say young hens....what does that mean regarding age?
Today I found an egg coated in blood, not entirely sure who the culprit is but I suspect it is one of my younger chickens although they have been laying since November. Everyone looks happy and there is not blood on anyone's vents or feathers. I also had a soft shell egg this week too, haven't...
I agree, keep scooping until you can remove it all. When I did this almost my whole hand was inside her vent....you will not do her any harm in really exploring her whole vent.But....retained broken egg will eventually take her life.
I had a hen in similar circumstances but her egg was broken. I went into her vent and cleaned out all I could feel. About 4 or so hours later she was back to normal.I have read that if the egg is intact to try not to break it...mine was already that way.I happy to say that for my girl it was...
I have two feeders and waterers and that worked well last time but even so this time the older ladies were relentless. These are a bit younger then the last ones so might be all about size....time will tell...
I have a flock of 5 hens ranging from 2-3 yrs in age, I am trying to introduce 3 pullets, the first day there was some chasing but not too bad and all roosted together. By the 3rd day though they were being pecked alot-no blood-but enough they were huddled in a ball and were not able to eat or...
