Today I found an egg coated in blood, not entirely sure who the culprit is but I suspect it is one of my younger chickens although they have been laying since November. Everyone looks happy and there is not blood on anyone's vents or feathers. I also had a soft shell egg this week too, haven't had one of those in awhile. They have calcium they can have as they want. What does everyone think?

This can be common, especially in young hens. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes more frequent. Just keep them on a good fresh layer feed, and have crushed oyster shell and egg shell available for them to eat as they need.

thanks was what I was thinking....have had chickens for about 3 yrs, not an expert by any means. This is the first time I encountered this. Curious to know I hear many say young hens....what does that mean regarding age?
