WHAT IN TARNATION??!!
I was cleaning out the coop this morning and found a bloody lump of something... strange. It was alongside the other droppings under the perch. It looks like maybe an undeveloped egg, but I really can’t tell. There’s quite a bit of what looks like coagulated blood in there and it feels gelatinous.
I brought it inside to rinse it off. It all stayed together when I ran water over it and I didn’t notice any blood running off of it… it’s like big gooey blood clot or something. It has a stem at the top, so I’m hoping it’s just a weird egg fluke, or her body thought that that egg had been fertilized somehow, and tried to make it into a baby…
No sign of blood on eggshells or in other droppings, so it doesn’t seem like coccidiosis.
This thing was under the perch of my five-year-old buff Orpington, and she had traces of blood on the feathers under her vent but otherwise nothing noteworthy from her physical. She's just as active and cuddly as ever.
I also have a five-year-old black australorp and a six month old showgirl silky (bantam, silky, bantam frizzle).
No roosters.
Both of the big girls have laid eggs this week with no problems, and the little girl hasn’t started laying eggs yet.
Has anybody seen something like this before? I’m very confused and pretty concerned.
