    Sick Chicken Wiki

Hi everyone, For years we have used this book “Poultry and Waterfowl Problems” by Michael Roberts to help us. We created a quick wiki on our website if anyone wants to take a look. http://www.snowypinesridge.com/birds-2/chickens/sick-chicken/

EMERGENCY, BLEEDING FOOT - Found an injured dove in the backyard, now what?

Hi, If you have any steptic powder that will stop the bleeding. If you do not have any of that you can use alum powder ( the stuff that makes dill pickles to make you pucker). I guess in a jamb you could try the pickle or the juice also....it might work....

    Bee keeping

Had the same thing happen the other day when we got our bees. I sent the wife back to the house to get a marshmellow. Came back in about 4 days....they didn't like the marshmellow. Maybe GMO?? Either way I just dug it out and set her loose.

    Aquaponics

Fish are one of those critters that I admit are sometimes hard to find. Normally you can't go onto craigslist and find them. Although I did prove myself wrong today when I saw a local craigslist ad advertising tilapia. I am guessing that since you are in the south east catfish farms are more...

Setting up an aquaponics greehouse - what did you do?

In our aquaponics greenhouse we probably have a lot of different problems than you will. Our biggest issue is snow loads on the green house. I am planning on rebuilding the whole thing this spring. As for you being in LA, I am guessing that you will have water issues. As for the operation...

    Aquaponics

We have close to 2 feet of snow on top of the green house now...I am amazed the thing is still standing. Not bad for only spending a hundred bucks on a used green house! While everything is nearly dead there are a couple of survivors. Here is a link to some of our pics...

Permits are a definate issue. In Oregon, when we lived there, the state was always wanting to over regulate farms, this was one of the reasons we left. In Washington to be legal you have to be inspected and pay a $250 dollar tax on all "ponds" (which, I am sure every person pays). If I put...

    Aquaponics

Demosthine, Your right there is a ton of information out there now. When I started there was very little information. A lot of what I did was by the seat of the pants and trying to use logic. Many of the systems that I saw had too much electrical input. I wanted to use logic...water flows...

    Heating Question

Agreed! Rocket stoves are the only way to go....Now if I could only get a little time and money to build one in our aquaponic greenhouse!

HELP!!!! goat had kid! I didn't know she was pregnant!!

If you have a heat lamp for the birds you should put one out in the goat shed. It sounds as though momma has taken the kid and is feeding it. Just make sure it keeps warm and you should be fine. Give momma a extra scoop of grain for a reward too!

    The Home Dairy

We are being overrun with milk! We milk the girls once a day and are getting about a gallon a day of milk and a pint of cream! Times like this we wish we had a pile of teenagers in the house... We rebuilt a surge milker and built our own vacuum pump out of a old air compressor. This has...

Keep an eye on craigslist....I am always seeing them for free on there. Also check some of the local spa dealers. They normally have to pay to have the old ones dumped. Good luck!

Very nice set up. You are most certainly in a warmer climate than us! I like how you dug your pit and put in the blocks....very nice. I might keep that in mind when I build the rocket stove for a deeper thermal mass.
