Hello from Kirkwood. I know of another gentleman by the recycling center with chickens too. I would like to get a local chicken raiser group together. Let me know!
From the looks of all the feathers and no eggs for the last 3 days, I think everyone is molting. All 6 hens of my girls hatched in April, and their their poduction dropped about a month ago with the shorter days to 1-3 eggs per day. Is it ok that they molt in late November? Is it normal that...
I haven't looked for parasites, but my girls are spoiled. They spend the day in a tractor, with fresh water and food. I am using the deep litter method in the overnight coop, but I haven't seen any lice or tics. Any advice?

The girls go...
One of my americauns is doing the same. Tan to light brown with a pinkish hue. Looks great when placed in a bowl with all the other colors. Think of it as celebrating diversity!
You might check with mypetchicken.com to see if your breed is winter hardy. I am just outside st louis and will be doing nothing special unless it stays well below freezing for more than a day, then into the basement cage. Good luck!
For few week one of the girls was giving us beautifully speckled eggs, tan with dark speckles. Was it something she was eating? Any ideas on how to make it happen again?
Thanks.
Yesterday I collected 6 eggs from 6 chickens. Unless 1 Americana is
producing brown eggs, my RIR gave me 2 eggs. Is this possible?
My 1st post, but I have found so much great
info here!
