I've been searching all over for eggs, problem is- I've got 23 acres of lawn and woods to search through and then some if they sneak into my neighbor's property. Sometimes I leave them in for a little longer in the morning so that they might lay eggs inside the coop. I've tried to confine them...
I wouldn't press food too much right now, but if it has been a long time since they have drank, you can go ahead and pry their beak open and drop some water down with an eye dropper. Try to get as much as you can down. It's going to be hard to do by yourself especially if your chickens aren't...
Just an update- I found one of my austrulorp roosters mating with a dominique. So I'm guessing/ hoping that that's a sign that eggs are coming soon. Though is it normal for roosters to do this before hens are mature? I got them all as day old chicks so they are very close in age.
I hadn't really examined his neck until an hour or so ago when I discovered a very gruesome gash on the back of his neck behind layers of feather. At first I had a panick attack because I'm not too great at that stuff but I managed to put some tea tree oil on it to keep off the bugs. It could...
Aww, Chik- ira is adorable. I never knew that owls went after chickens. I always thought that they went after mice and things. I was examining my dominique's neck today and I found that it was much worse than I had origionally thought . There's an enourmous bloody gash hidden beneath his neck...
When I first got into chickens I loved and wanted buff orpingtons, but I held back because I was afraid that it's too warm down south. I've heard that they're very hardy against the cold, but in nc that's rarely too big of an issue. Would heat be a problem for them?
My dominique was attacked by a hawk yesterday and now he's always turning his head to the left and never to the right even when he's turning in that direction. He looks pretty miserable. I'm think he has a crook in his neck. What should I do about it? Just wait it out? Any suggestions are...
I did let the days get shorter before turning on the light, though I hadn't thought to make it more gradual. I'm trying to be patient, I guess I'm just not sure wether to buy some eggs and the store or keep waiting...
I don't want to sound rude by any means, but I'm not sure that you know what...
I'm so sorry. I guess that's all the information I can give. If you have an eye dropper I might try getting a little down by opening her beak and dropping some down
She might have eaten something that maybe didn't settle right with her. Other than that, I'm not sure what it could be. She might have had a disease or neurological disorder that might be plaguing her. I'm into natural medicine, so I'm afraid I know nothing about antibiotics and drugs that other...
Try sprinkling some diatomacious earth on her legs and in her bedding if you have any. Dip her beak in some water and see if she'll take it then. If you have any supplements or chicken vitamins, add them to her water.
It is very unusual for a chicken to die from leg mites so check her...
I'm really sorry, I used to have a little duckling that I hatched that got sick and died. I know how it feels :'( I love all of my chickens and I have my share of heart breakers. It always seems like the chickens I love are the ones that come out missing. Just yesterday on of my chickens got...
