Last Easter my son 11 yr old begged and begged me to get chicks after going to our local Tractor Supply Store. We are both huge animal loveres. I agreed under one surcomestance, that he would do his best to take are of them. We started out with four pullets from the TS store. This being our first time raising chickens we where having horrible storms and unfortunately the babies didn't make it. After a few days I agreed to get him more chicks even though our hearts were still broken. We decided to try buying from somewhere else so we could see the chickens and could pick out the ones he wanted. We ened up with four Speckled Suseex chicks. Later as they grew we realized one was diffrent than the other three. Turned out we had three hens and one rooster. As he grew we noticed his little leg was growing wrong. It now turns outward but this sure doesnt slow him down. He follows the girls every where. We built them a large pin with a coop inside. I have two basset hounds I put in the front yard so the girls can come out and run and peck all over, otherwise the girls would be puppy food
. They listen for me when I go outside. All I have to do is call them "GIRLS" and they come running like bullets lol. They follow me and my son around like we're their mother
... They love red grapes. Every morning as soon as the rooster aka Hobble hears me he starts to crow and the girls go crazy waiting for their grapes. They just stared laying and boy it was the greatest thing to see those two little eggs for the first time. My son was soooooooo excited. He is selling the eggs & loves making money but boy is it a struggle to get him to go tend to the girls on a daily basis. I couldn't be happier with my Sussex girls. Hope you enjoyed my crazy story. I look forward to chatting with you!!!!!!!
