I'll try to take some pictures and maybe some video tomorrow if it's not raining. I watched them for a while tonight and the only thing I really noticed was that most were "honking" and one was kind of a raspy squeak? Will a drake "honk" if he's alarmed or excited? Unfortunately, I couldn't...
We have 4 Pekins. Two we got from the feed store at the beginning of April and 2 that we rescued from the local reservoir. I have no idea what sex they are. One was being aggressive to the chickens if they got too close (it would run at and just plow over the chicken target...quiite funny)...
*L* I can handle the enablers....I've been known to do a bit of enabling myself. ;o) I've lost track of how many chicks/chickens that I have, which is probably ridiculous, but I'll get a handle on that when we finally get all of their separate coops complete and sort them all out. I have to...
My current adult chickens consist of 5 Roosters; Oliver Wendall, a Buff Orpington; Merlin, a big, fluffy blue English Orpington with incorrect copper feathers on his neck, but we think it just makes him more handsome; Michael Kors, a big, beautiful Australorp, Rex, a gorgeous, correctly colored...
I have enough mental and physical pain that I'm subjected to unwillingly...I'm certain I'll pass on subjecting myself to any willingly! So I guess I will just have to limp along and resist as best I can and hope I can avoid the 'chick stores' until their "chick days" are over!
One can hope...
I've put a self-imposed restriction on myself. I have to. I cannot buy anymore chicks. I'm done. Finito. Finished. I went to the Agway today to pick up what I said was the "last" of my chicks. Some Light Brahma chicks...6 of them. I had gotten a couple of Light Brahma chicks from a...
What has been your customer average hatch rate from your eggs? I know there can be no guarantees, but my first experience with buying hatching eggs was a disappointing one (3 of 15 eggs hatched and all 3 chicks died at about 2 weeks after doing very well til then). So I just feel I have to ask...
Thank you all so much for the kind welcomes! I'm glad to be here. There is so much information here. I'm looking forward to reading and learning and, hopefully, at some point I'll be able to contribute something wise....or at least witty.
Thank you! Yep, there's nothing quite so funny as watching an Orpington run. I have a chair in my chicken pen for me to sit on to "commune" with my chickens. I find watching my chickens as calming as watching fish in an aquarium.
Thanks, all! As I suspected, so far I've been bouncing around reading through different topics. I suspect that will keep me busy for a while. I'm sure I'll be posting here and there as questions occur to me. I appreciate the Welcomes! Very kind. :o)
Bobbi
Hi, my name is Bobbi and I live in northcentral Maryland. I love chickens obviously. Right now my favorite breed are the Orpingtons, and specifically, the English Orps, but I've recently acquired a few Silkies because I just fell in love with them. I look forward to learning lots of good...
