Are these the "streamers" people talk about on the back of a cockerel's head? This chick was hatched on Thanksgiving & is starting to get a slightly raised area on it's beak.

Thanks! I sure hope it's a girl, too! I have terrible luck getting cockerels.:( She carries herself like a pullet, isn't aggressive at all and has a very soft cluck. I never thought that she wasn't a pullet until someone commented on the comb but they only saw it in a picture & not a very good...

This chick came from a Silkie sized egg & the father is a Silkie but the smooth wings have us puzzled. What are people's thoughts on this chick? It is about 2 weeks old.

Thanks! It is exciting! I did the same thing my first summer with chickens & got a prefab tractor which said would hold 6-8 chickens. No way! Bantams, MAYBE! It is also falling apart & I think it will be in the burn pile this spring.:(

Sorry to change the subject from all this rat talk but I'm pretty excited! Nellie's gone broody again! So I got her 5 fertile Silkie eggs-projected hatch date: March 15th.
