    chick feed

I got my question answered. Was at the store Saturday and they had medicated and nonmedicated chick feed. Wasn't sure what I wanted so I got the nonmedicated. They will be in the laundry room until big enough to go outside. I guess the next bag I will get the medicated.

I think this is a good plan. Just start accumulating free stuff.

    High Wind Dangers

I don't know if it would blow over or not. If you are concerned and want a simple solution that is inexpensive try getting a couple of dog tie out anchors. http://www.horseloverz.com/237057-Chrome-Spiral-Pet-AnchorTieout-Stake-For-Dogs---18-Inch.html Walmart carries them too. Look...

can bulding made with treated lumber be used ?

I don't see why not. I am using treated lumber due to alot of it is exposed to the elements and the skids will be on the ground.

    My Large chicken tractor.

We put a hinged floor on the nesting boxes also. The girls thought they would make nests. That is all for today. My order of hardware cloth comes in tomorrow.

    My Large chicken tractor.

Some more of the front siding is done. I am going to leave it open at the top for ventilation. Will put hardware cloth across there. The ramp/door. I hinged it so that it can be pulled shut at night. It seals tightly into the floor.

    Coop Cam

I don't think this is crazy at all. Talking with the local deputy after my mailbox was smashed he said that cameras are getting more popular in the rural areas. I plan to install some to monitor the driveway. Having one on the coop wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Hinges are great. My coop will have the two ends hinged for easy cleaning access. The nesting boxes will have a hinges floor also.

OSB ok to use for inner walls of coop? Inner coop wall ideas?

I get free pallets from ACE hardware. Pick them up by the trailer load. The idea of the blocks and OSB should work too. If it was me. I would use some pallets stacked on top of the blocks and the just screw them to the existing walls. This should give you alot of added strength...

Barn to coop conversion - looking for suggestions

I would use the smaller building too. You may need the big one for future additions or other projects. I am currently building my coop inside my shed. When its done I can slide it out the big door and into the yard. If it goes well I will build more. The interest from others is there...

    Chicken tractor pics

I am not sure if a floor is necessary, but being able to close the coop up at night to secure it is a good idea. I plan to have both ends open so that I can easily clean it out with a broom and shovel. The center of the floor will be a ramp/door that I can close up at night to secure the...

    My Large chicken tractor.

I found two pieces of tin along the side of the road today. About six feet long. They are still in my company truck until I figure out how to get them into my corolla.

Hubby says no chickens. No funds for coop

I have used some pallets that I get for free from ACE hardware. The manager pointed to a stack and told me I can have all I want. I loaded my trailer full. Will go back for another load when I use these up. It takes a bit of time to take them apart, but I can use most of the lumber from...

    My Large chicken tractor.

I worked on the nesting boxes today. That is about all I got to. I made four based on the group saying that they tend to share. My plan is to have a hinge bottom to make cleaning them out easier and then a hinged lid to retrieve eggs. All the pieces I used were recycled except the...
