Akbash Dogs or Maremma sheepdogs are found to be the best for flock protection. We have a Maremma which we bought as a pup and it protects our sheep and chooks from preditors. They are a very smart dog and when she lays there the chooks sit on her with no fuss.
these silver laced wyndotte are now 6 months old and still no crowing but i do see a difference in them. can someone help me determine if hens or roosters.

I dropped barley seeds on the ground in the chicken coop and placed a bread crate over the top to stop the chooks eating them. I forgot about it and after 3 days i picked it up and to my surprise i had sprouts. the chickens went nuts feeding.

here in Aus i"m using golden yolk grains (not pellet version) and my girls love it but i also grow sprouts and grow silverbeat and spinich.
i mix it up so they get there fresh greens and suppliment with seeds.
