Thanks :) they are a bit freaked out but prefer sitting on my hand than the floor! They like the confines of their little house for now but hopefully will become more friendly!
Well its official I'm hooked on chickens lol! We brought home 2 silkie chicks!! Today and I'm praying when I put them outside in a few months with my 2 Big hens (RIR and BCM) that they don't get picked on too badly!! My kids are in Love with these 2 babies!! They love our older 2 but...
Oh and as a matter of fact my avatar is Jessie RIR on the trampoline last summer I though she was just doing this as she was lonely (before we got the BCM) and so wanted to be with us 24/7 but nope she has another hen now and still wants to be up there lol!
Hello wondering if anyone else's hens love their trampoline? Everytime my RIR hen is out free ranging and the kids are on the trampoline she jumps up there and wants to be up there with all the commotion of 4 kids jumping! My BCM hen then freaks as she's Very attached to my RIR hen but doesn't...
And BTW I watched that video and now need to go Burn my eyeballs out!!! I believe I will be become a partial vegan and only eat the eggs my girls give me of their own free will!!
Oh and my girls never drew blood my pullet was Very nervous around my RIR and would practically Climb me when I went into the coop to clean or feed just to get away from her lol! I have a feeling my RIR would kill my BCM's chicks if I did breed her!
Thanks for the reply so probably best to get a New pullet instead of getting a rent a stud? We aren't allowed to own Roos in my city but back hard hens are allowed! I was going to borrow a friends roo so I knew where he was coming from as I cannot have one of my own. I thought about getting a...
Hahaha I'm in Vancouver and have 2 BYC's and my neighbor who Sees my chickens and how they are raised told me the same thing when I offered to GIVE her free eggs (as some days my girls are quite noisey!) she was like "uuumm NO I can't eat "farm eggs" she even made the Air Quotes!! I was like...
Hi all can anyone tell me if having a "rent a stud" come in and breed 1 of my girls is a good idea and would having a clutch change her "status"? Should I worry about my Top RIR Hen picking on the babies or momma? My 2 girls get along pretty well now but Jessie (RIR) is still head hen and she...
Thanks everyone! Hubby was chattig with his friend yesterday about building a chicken tractor for meaties so we shall see (my girls slept in dog crates at first on our deck till their coop got built so may take him a while lol). Thanks for all your input this helps me and gives me things to...
Oh YIKES!! Well thank you all for the input I will keep this all in mind when deciding. I really just want egg birds but its hubby who wants meaties. I have my eye on a silver laced Wyandotte we will see who wins out lol! Thanks again for all your input I really appreciate it!
Thanks everyone that helps as well! Think about the "ethical" side of things does help. We would only have 2 meaties at a time though as our bylaws state that you can only have 4 back yard birds as we live on sufficient property but technically only 1/2 as the other side of the house is rented...
Hehehe all hubby wants is to do the processing for me that's about it he doesn't do " chicken chores" for our 2 girls we have now and he chose the BCM breed for our 2nd chicken (our 1st chicken a RIR just "showed" up one day! I have 1 neighbor with a roo (as we can hear him every am) and a...
Thanks everyone :) my girls have been using the nest boxes now since I first put the golf balls back guess in the spring I will have to buy hubby some new good balls lol as I stole his lol!!
Thanks everyone for the help and stories!! Hubby is not sure about getting meat birds anymore as I'm squeamish about it and I'm the one that cares for the birds lol and he says "I don't wanna hear it" lmao so not sure if we will have meat birds or not! My 2 girls are our pets and I love them...
Thanks :) the golf balls are working do you all just leave your "fake eggs" in the nest boxes forever or once they start you remove them? They have started to push the balls out of the nest during the day after I collect eggs so do they still "need" them??
