Out of the brooder and into the coop ?

I built a convertible chicken tractor with a hutch/brooder on one end. The hutch converts into a brooder and vice-versa. They get a week to 10 days in the brooder for my White Rocks, then out into the tractor. Granted I have a heat lamp for them. But I try to make brooder time short.

Appreciate that info. I will be taking them to butcher, but she is going to stay. I'm going to introduce her to the Buckeyes and see if they will become pals.

    White Rock Cross tiny bird

Hi friends. I have 4 week old WRC chickens, 17 to be exact. I got them as day old and they are all doing great. However, I have one that is somewhere between a sparrow and a robin, the others are 4-5 times its size. It still looks like a peep, but very healthy. I contacted the hatchery and they...

High fatality rate - help! Is it the feeder or the milk or the amount?

A couple questions; Did you give them any fermented food? Their digestive system needs kick start. I had several panting, got the peep electrolytes on them again, then fermented food and it stopped. The runs were dehydrating them. Fermented food will eliminate all the loose bowels by giving them...

    buckeye chickens

I got my birds about 4-6 months old from a breeder south of Wilmington Ohio. They are great birds, I have two hens one rooster. Get an average of 1-2 eggs every 3 days. As far as eating them, I have no intention of eating these birds. They have become "fixtures" you could say. They are quite...

    Flax seeds??

I feed my birds a variety, they get the natural layer crumbles, natural scratch grains and wild bird seed. Which brings me to the Omega 3 found in Flax Seed. If you feed the chooks some wild bird seed, (Sunflower Seed, Wheat, Corn, Oats, Milo and Millet). There is allot of Omega 3 for them, and...

I have Buckeye's, they are terrific and prettier than pics can show. I will try and post one. They are an Ohio breed, the only breed created by a woman. The name comes from the deep red color, resembling a Buckeye. The tail feathers on the rooster are a very dark green and they have pea combs...

    Cookie Tin water heater...

I made a simple water heater. I purchased a ceramic light fixture, ran a cord to it and put a 70 watt reflector bulb in it (the small one, about 3" in dia). I sat the outlet on the floor then I took 1/2 a cinder block and sat it over the light fixture and placed the plastic 1.5 gallon watering...
