My Hens Are Dying. Can You Help?

Sorry for your losses. This reminds me to cut back on the scratch. I raised mealworms for awhile and found them to be almost as entertaining as my hens.

    Serama Bantam Tips

I have same question in SC but have an open with 3 walls at one end covered coop/run. Must I create separate housing for Seramas during cold? They do have perch with wall-mounted heat where they sleep at night. Days they hop down and are exposed again to cold.

Lost my flock of three chickens today....

I am saddened to read of your loss. Our chickens- with- names are part of our family, too, and I know how disheartened you are. Sounds like you had a good setup and maybe with a little modification you could make it safer for a few more girls. I hate to see you give up with a broken heart...

I have a sweet Ameracauna who has been broody for two weeks. When I get my Tractor Supply chicks this week, could I try to see if she will adopt the chicks? Backup plan will be the "mother heating pad cave."

    I NEED CHICKEN NAMES FAST!!

I began by naming them after presidents' daughters, but when Jenna Bush had to be changed to Jeb Bush, and Sasha and Mileah also started crowing, I had to change strategies, so I named others by their appearance to tell them apart: Spot, Buzzard, and Skunk. With all the great names people are...

Review by '' on item 'Marans'

Got these 3 gals completely by mistake, as I thought they were another kind. They were the ugliest pullets, and I named them according to their appearance, ie: Buzzard, Blaze, and Skunk. Now, they are a year old, shiny and black with the copper necks, and produce dark brown but nowhere- near...

    Double Trouble for Dear Hubby

My husband had to build two chicken coops for me because we live in the mountains of Upstate SC half the time and in the midlands the other half. We scavenged, salvaged, begged, and bought the materials as we learned about chicken math. Coop # 1 was assembled in our midlands backyard then...
