Thank you! I have told my husband that his next job is to build a roll away. Its def not that the eggs are cracked. They have been laying for months in the crate. It is a med/large size plastic dog crate so there is plenty of room for multiple ones to go inside and lay at same time. They used to...
My chickens seem to be molting already. They are just now a year old. I noticed that egg laying had slowed down as I was hardly getting any eggs. We have an old dog crate that they usually lay in. Today my husband seen one of my hens come out of the crate and another chicken or two immediately...
Good afternoon! I'm not new to chickens or the community however I have recently just gotten back into raising them. I love the knowledge and helpful advice of this community. As of right now I have 2 roosters and 8 hens. I also just hatched out 5 biddies. I loved the incubating process & love...
I've been hoping for a hen but fearing that it is a roo. But we hatched it and will love it regardless. I don't think we could bear to part with our Marshmallow. :) Thank you all!
I posted this on another thread and as told it was an EE. Someone said hen and another said roo. So I figured I would post to this thread and see if I could get more clarity possibly. This chick hatched Jan 11 out of a small light blue egg. I originally thought I had a cochin but have been told...
Thank you. I didn't think she was a cochin but wasn't sure. It was a small egg with a bluish tint. I know the man had some olive eggers because he also gave me some of those eggs but none were fertilized. She kinda looked like my light brahma with the comb and feathered legs but not the puffs...
I just couldn't resist these little beauties when I went into the feed store. I'm wondering what breed they might be. I'm not necessarily concerned with sex yet because I know it is still early. Just curious as to what kind I may have. Both have 4 toes on each foot and pretty feathering...
This was my only one to hatch on Jan 11. It hatched out of the tiniest sky blue egg and I thought it may be a cochin because I thought that was what kind of eggs the man gave me. It's comb has grown some but looks a lot redder inside then when I take him/her outside. There really aren't any...
We got him as a colored chick for Easter so im not sure about parents. Theres no dark coloring in him. All white. It may b some dirt on him in the pic.
Do I still need to put it on there if they already seem very dry? I put some antibiotic ointment on last night and a litte piece of the crust would fall off from time to time. He is still crowing and cackling and acting fine. I hope he is the only one that catches it. Thank u all for ur help and...
I feel a little better. I searched on the website and found another thread and it seems like dry pox just runs its course since it is viral. As long as it doesn't develop into wet pox, we should be good and even then, if I catch it in time and swab their mouths to remove the lesions, then they...
I'm so glad I found this thread. I posted a pic of my roo earlier and it was suggested as pox. I was devastated as I thought this meant I may lose him. I doctored his facial areas but will definitely be checking him tomorrow to make sure there are no lesions in his mouth. However, he still crows...
I did look at the pictures but only a few looked like him. A lot of the pictures looked like ulcers but his are hard raised areas. How would I know if the hen has it too? They were a Christmas present from my hubby. I hope he doesn't die
Is this contagious? He is in a pen with his banty hen. And altho they don't free range, some of the other free range hens stick their head thru the fence and share their water at times. Now I'm very worried.
