Broody hen only hatched one chick, she (or he) is 5 weeks old. i have mom and baby separated but all in same pen with 2 roos and 4 hens. mom and baby are dying to get in with everyone else, i would like to start trying for short intervals when i can be close by and stretch longer to everyone...
I had a baby chick at about 2 weeks old that all of a sudden couldnt walk. I separated her from the rest of the flock and she didnt get better. Took her to my awesome vet figuring she would have to be put to sleep, he wanted to try me giving her prednisone by dropper for 4 weeks and exercsing...
My smallest hen Brownie is laying on 4 eggs! Were so excited but this is a first for us. I have 2 attentive friendly roosters (well, they never challenge me in the pen and I do not fear them at all) I have 4 other hens as well. I marked the 4 eggs with a crayon so I would know any other eggs...
had a horrible experience years ago with a mean rooster. Put me and my husband in the emergency room on 2 separate occasions. got rid of him. had no chickens for 2 years and just started up again. I have one sweet girl who has a neurological issue and cant walk very well (Brownie is her name), I...
oh ok good to know on the Vit B I will try that. there is nothing I can do about her getting lonely, I can put her back in her section of the pen on nice days, maybe a blanket on the ground?
I assume they make liquid Vitamin B?? someone else told me lavender oil, to rub on her leg but they vet said no he didn't think that was good for her.
my husband does, and he really doesn't care, he just thinks im nuts, LOL
had a "runt" of the flock that at about 2 weeks wouldn't stand up. thought she was being trampled and/or bullied by the other ones so I separated her. shes about 3 months old now and still cant stand. Took her to the vet, he feels its neurological and she was born with it. I have been giving her...
gotcha, my husband went and bought some treated lumber and he is making a permanent frame on the outside of the door so I can come and go easily and it covers the gaps securely. thank you for all your input!!!!
can anyone help with securing chain link door on my pen? I have used a large dog run that my husband modified to have a pitched roof. I have wrapped the whole pen in galvanized small hole wire (learned the hard way on what can reach thru it) and I have done the ground all around it with 18inches...
ok, I guess we will know for sure when husband watches the video. I am not a fan of killing, but I would kill whatever is doing this, husband may not agree with that.
I will let you know what is on the video later this afternoon when he gets home.
thank you!
yes, just spoke to the girl I got my chickens from and she said the same thing, sounds like a racoon. I cant bring myself to watch the video as my chickens are my babies and I don't want to see her being killed. they definitely didn't get into the pen this time and reached thru. yes I can lock...
please someone help and fast~ started with 6 chicks, 2 were stolen out of the pen night before last, small opening in the gate of the pen. secured it 110% for last night, woke up this am and it looks like she pulled the chicken thru the chain fence without entering it!! its a chain link wrapped...
yes i mean the spurs! These are huge, 6 to 7 inches long and the width of a dime!
I am thinking of removing them instead of trimming them, just little nervous
2 things actually, roosters foot got caught in fencing yesterday for probably an hour, we got him out but today he isn't putting any weight on it. Hes acting normal otherwise and its not swollen. I assume I should give it a few days.
But the other issue is, he has the biggest talens I have ever...
