I am not a breeder, just trying to hatch some eggs that I had shipped. I candled them today and I have 10 out of 12 survive to day 6. I have read that Seramas do not have great hatch rates but I am hoping to get 2-3 out of this bunch. Any more than that, I'll be ecstatic!
hi Kilnchick...I'm in Long Beach and I am interested. PM me if you have a couple of chicks you want to sell. I'd love to get a trio of a roo and 2 pullets. They will be kept indoors.
Thanks so much for posting on my FB page Hansen6dad!! I just recently created it and am hoping that more Long Beach chicken keepers will see and respond. I'd like to get a good idea of how many people (read voters) are willing to put a little pressure on the board of aldermen to create a...
So far I have not been reported to the city inspector for having "livestock.". I rehomed 5 of my girls so that my chickens fall under the pet ordinances for Long Beach. I am hoping this works to keep the ones I Have. I am not sure where to start to change the ordinances but I am on a mission...
Hansen6dad,
I live in Long Beach as well and have neighbors who are apparently unhappy with my chickens and are trying to make me get rid of them. I have 4 which is within the pet limit. Last week I had 9 and rehomed them to use the pet angle if I am reported. I spoke to Alderman Hammons...
Getting winter chicks in 2 weeks from Ideal. 3 black and 2 brown sex links, 2EE's, 2 Australorpes, 2 Barred Rocks, and 2 Rhode Island Reds. For a new twist this year, I am also getting 3 little Blue Swedish Ducklings. Anyone else expecting babies soon?
Can this be a tell tale sign for other chickens as well as EE's? If so, this would seem to make it easy to tell very early on, and save a lot of guessing and anxiety.
Hi Foxystag, I am moving to Long Beach in 2 weeks. My husband and I retired to Long Beach after he got out of the Navy in 2009 and we own a home there down by the coast. I moved to Crestview, florida back in November to be with my husband after he got a job here, but have decided to go back...
I just ordered 14 day old Polish chicks to replace the ones that got eaten in a dog attack last month. They will be here June 12 ...I can't wait! There should be 4 White Crested Blue, 3 Silver Laced, 3 Black crested White, and 4 Red crested red...Maybe they will throw in a couple extras to...
Thank you for your understanding. Thankfully, I have learned too. This week seems to be a little better than the last one. I don't think I'll forget feeling guilty that I couldn't protect those birds. It kind of breaks my heart that I built a coop that they couldn't escape from when the...
We were amazed and honestly confused that we didn't hear anything while the attack was happening. The birds must have made one heck of a racket, not to mention the dogs. This is one reason that we decided to move the coop closer to the house and buy a few guineas to scream for us.
I think in most of my posts on this thread I have mentioned the owners and the fact that they do not care for these dogs properly. The female dog had teats that were nearly hanging to the ground, obviously had puppies somewhere. It's no wonder they surrendered the offending dogs. They have...
No apologies necessary. I should have left the breed off the original post. I did not realize at the time that it would start any kind of debate. I wish it hadn't. BTW, What does SSS mean? I am assuming "shoot the predator" but well, that would be STP.
