    is this gleet?

Quote: Hi there! Did you ever figure out what was wrong with your hen? I, too, have been reading through all of the posts because of my SLW (2 yrs old) with similar characteristics to yours - vent is not inflamed nor seems irritated in any way and abdomen seems OK (nothing hard or spongy) but...

Yes, Winky is pinkish, too. Oh well! I had hoped for 2 girls because one - which will be Claire - is promised to my mom as a birthday gift (the whole reason I got them in the first place).... But then, of course, I wanted one of my own! It will be a good excuse to try again next year. :-)...

And, Donna, you might recognize these 2 as well. Sally and Stella are the black and blue copper marans I got from you. If you remember, Stella was just barely out of her egg, but she made her trip back to Knoxville like a champ. She is such a sweet girl!!!! (She may be my favorite....)

    cutest chicken names!

We've added 8 more to our flock.... couldn't resist. Love that chicken math! Our new chicks are Stella, Sally, Callie, Claire, Hettie, Cassie, Penny, and Winky. Hoping Hettie will not turn into Hercules....

La Casa de Pollo ~ Do you have any pics of your girl/boy chicks around 4 weeks? I'm curious to see the development. I got 3 SBELs from DMRippy mid-March, and they are precious! Two have straight combs and one is pea comb. I am just guessing at gender.

Feather sexing question: Ameraucana x Leghorn

Thanks! I'll watch for that. I was a little worried about the difference in length of wing feathers/tail growth between my chicks.... but "overnight" the shorter wings grew to almost touching the tail. I think maybe those 2 were just a bit younger. Keeping my fingers crossed! (We can't have roos.)

Feather sexing question: Ameraucana x Leghorn

Quote: What makes it apparent? Larger combs or something else? (I have 3 chicks that are a little over a week and one has longer wing feathers and is developing tail feathers quicker than the other 2.) Thanks!

    The EE braggers thread!!!

Quote: Haha! They may build a tower to get her out of the run.... but I guess they use teleportation to get her back in. She flies out of the run every day, but about once every week or two sometime during the day she also flies back in. I'll come home to find her back with the rest of the...

    The EE braggers thread!!!

Quote: I went out and measured my fence and... sure enough... only 6 1/2 feet. Sorry about that!!! She does fly right up there without help, though, as we currently have no roosts inside the run. (None of my other birds even try - not even my other EE, who I would think should be able to if...

    The EE braggers thread!!!

We have 2 acres they free range when I'm home. While I'm at work, they stay in their run.... well, all but Sassy (my "flyer"). She jumps the 8' fence and hangs out in the yard all day. Believe me when I say there is not one single blade of grass in the run!!

    The EE braggers thread!!!

Love looking at all of the beautiful EE's!!! Wanted to add my two the the thread.... Sassy at a few days old. Got her name b/c of her spunk as a chick: She is my "flyer" and leaves her sisters daily to explore on her own. Lacy was originally called "Specks" but my son renamed her when...
