Arsenic Being Added to Chicken Feed

Here is the lable from my chicken feed. It does not list any Arsenic added. Do you think my birds are in danger of being deficent in Arsenic? (sarc)

Arsenic Being Added to Chicken Feed

Humm, I don´t remember seeing any Arsnic on the lable of my Mexican brand feed, but who really knows. Arsnic is among those things where I desire no amount, even trace, along with things like cesium, and flouride type compounds. Higher trace levels of potassium iodide and trace borax are...

Sorry to hear about the problems. I am blessed with a location with a yard with a 20 foot security wall for the hens, but as far as where to find them, all I can say is that if you live in central Mexico, the Purina dealers here seem to sell only Australorps and Golden Sex Links, and the Purina...

    Mexico

Hi All, I was raised in the US and lived most of my life there but now am retired and live in central Mexico (south of Toluca), and my hens are my favorite hobby. This forum is great, but I have a complaint about the post editor. The editor identifies my language automatically as Spanish...

    Do Cats Eat Chickens?

I have a tabby cat with sharp claws and teeth and lots of hunting instinct. The chicks that were about half adult size seemed able to defend themselves, barely, although he would pin them down and "play" with them sometimes. Now I've got a hen that is brooding on a clutch of eggs that may be...

What did you give your chickies today?

When my first chicks were young, they tried earth worms for a few days, but soon decided that they don't want to eat them. They still love to dig through the soil when I work in the garden and they eat all the bugs, except for the earthworms. I can only imagine why (sqirming in the stomach...

What did you give your chickies today?

I forgot and left the gate open to one of the gardens today, and the ladies helped themselves to 15 types of food plants and herbs.

Oh, That's nice! I guess the same "rule" applies to us humans too then!

What did you give your chickies today?

Ok, it doesn't surprise me that chickens will eat cooked chicken, but doesn't something seem wrong about that? I remember reading something about how mad cow disease in cattle, caused by "prions", got started by feeding cattle their own brains. There might be a biological reason to avoid...

9 Year Old Girl Saves Family Raising Chickens

Yeah, I was inspired when I read the story, especially since I am in Mexico but was raised in the US, and know the high cost of living there, and the self imposed and legal limits placed on what minors can do. Personally I have found my hens to be the most practical part of my home gardening...

9 Year Old Girl Saves Family Raising Chickens

Shelby Grebenc began her business at age 9, with a loan from her grandmother, to help her family stave off homelessness when her mother became bedridden with multiple sclerosis.... http://www.nextworldtv.com/videos/inspiration-1/young-girl-rescues-family-by-farming-chickens.html

What did you give your chickies today?

This is my first year passed with hens. When they were young they were fussy eaters and left most of the plants alone. Now I have the strawberries sort of fenced off, but they can still reach through if they try, and they do eat some of them on the plant, and they eat them if they are from...

What did you give your chickies today?

I went to town today and brought back a small cheese danish. I came in through the back gate and pulled out the danish and started eating it from one end. The hens jumped up and started eating it from the other end. When we got near the middle I let them have it.

Of my breeds these are my favorites. (I have plymoth rock, australorp, production, and arucanas) Australorps are my best producers, are intellegent, friendly, not too passive or agressive and even manage to keep their plumage in better condition than the rest.

I have one of these, thought it was a Golden Sex Link, but it was bought from Purina in Mexico and looks exactly like the photo. This one started as the lowest on the pecking order among 2 Rock Islands, and an Australorp "sister". She tolerated being the lowest well enough, but when newer...

What did you give your chickies today?

They are kind of like humans. The young ones are really fussy, and they are cautious with new foods, but as adults they eat pretty much anything. Thanks for the info on they beans. I try them on them again, but like if I give them a stew with lots of ingredients, they will eat everything...

What did you give your chickies today?

Gee, I read that chickens can't digest the protein of beans, and my hens won't eat beans anyhow. Is this not true?
