What did you give your chickies today?

oh my, the question should be what haven't i fed my chickens! My chickens eat just about everything.. lately been giving them a head of lettuce and some ground meat. They are really loving the green stuff right now with everything being brown cuz of winter.

Mine got lefter over pork chops, black rice, baby spinach, apples, collard greens and carrots. And Gabby gave me the stink eye, no oats this morning. She doesn't pay me enough to complain. They eat healthier than I do.

They all got yogurt today, It expired in the fridge before we had a chance to eat it :(

Big girls got 3 containers and the chicks/ducklings got one container to share among the 30 of them.

Morning they get scratch and peck, ( main food for all day consumption ) all natural, grains non Gmo . Next sunflower seed given around 12:30. Then meal worms, then raisins . Tomorrow they will get zatarans black beans and rice as I made to much for dinner tonight... Only after 12:30 so they eat there morning grains first. Also yogert as I give this 2 days a week mixed with raisins . They also now have access to somewhat green grass as the snow has left the back yard and there is green grasses there loving.

I just got my 4 pullets (2 months old) 6 days ago and I love them. They are eating tons of "grower" but I have tried to give them fruits and veggies as 'treats' over the last few days with no luck. They won't eat anything I have tried (strawberries cut up very small, peaches chopped into very small pieces, grated zucchini, kix cereal, and plain yogurt) They might try one taste but that's it. I had to remove all the 'treats' after a couple hours b/c I didn't want the food to spoil before they got around to eating it. Are they just too young for foods other than grower feed? Or picky eaters? Should I leave the "treats" in longer?

I am new to this too. I just got 6 week old Wellsummers about 3 weeks ago. I bought them some dried worms as a treat. Put them in there and nothing. They could care less. 2 days later I offered again and they went crazy for them.

Gee, I read that chickens can't digest the protein of beans, and my hens won't eat beans anyhow. Is this not true?

if they are not given these treats before then they will not understand them. Give it time, they will go nuts over them later. My pullets did not like goodies either , but soon they loved everything I gave them. Today they eat everything under the sun .
