Thank you for the comments. I want to get more pictures but I'm a little bit afraid of him. He has not tried to attack me but I haven't given him the chance. He is unusually bold for a chicken. He follows me as I walk around the outside of the run, and when I go inside he calmly walks up to me...
Mine have grown up and here is my Roo. I know very little about the breed so I would be interested in your comments. The picture doesn't show it but he is just MASSIVE. Or bigger than the other Roos I've had like Cream Legbars. He is so big he's intimidating.
So today is National Creamsicle Day so anyone have pics of Silkie/CL pics to post? Don't think I'll get one. I lost my Silkie Roo and my CL roo would probably be too rough for my little Silkie hens. They seem so delicate.
Thank you all for the help on the ramp!! I need to do this soon! Look what we have!! Mamas getting along fine. Maybe hatching a few more.
I'm hooked on Broodies now!!!!
Need opinions on my coop set-up as a nursery once the chicks hatch. This is the coop. The inside coop is 4x4 and the run underneath is 4x8.
Here's my problem. See this ramp? I'm worried that once the chicks hatch they might toddle out the door and off the ramp. Should I close off the door...
A blue splash Orpington and a barred rock. Pre-motherhood they were two of my sweetest and they haven't been mean Broodies yet. No real fuss when I moved them and they let me pet them when I check on them. I've noticed they swap nests once in awhile.
I guess if they fight I could just take...
First time broody grandma here.
i had two hens go broody at the same time. I moved them to a separate coop that is 4' by 4' and has a ramp down to a 4' by 8' enclosed run. I'm wondering after they hatch their eggs if there is likely to be any nastiness between the two mamas. Anyone done this...
I got to meet KPenley!!! And now I have the most beautiful little cockerel that I named "Andy" in honor of his home town. I guess we'll have to call him Anderson when he's a big important grown up rooster.
K, he slept on my lap all the way home. I put him in his own coop in my garage...
I moved them. They were not happy but they're back on the nest and so I guess they're fine. They have their own coop to themselves. They're feeling very much like the queens now. :) Thank you!
She is just assuming that she got it from the eggs. Bird flu - seriously?
FYI in case she gets lawsuit happy, it is very very difficult to prove a food poisoning case. She would have to have some of the food that she ate and have it analyzed to prove it. You can get food poisoning from...
Hi - did you find anything out? I just found a silver laced wyandotte dead in the corner of the coop. Sounds exactly like your experience. She was on her belly but her head was all the way underneath her and her wings were partially spread out. The head was so far underneath her, for a...
I have a big fluffy blue splash orpington who has gone broody. Then her best friend decided to join her. Some of the other hens in the flock have been pushing the broodys off their nests (both are pretty wimpy) and laying more eggs for the broodys to sit on. I'm going to have a zillion eggs...
