White Cornish: Building a Quality, Sustainable Flock for Meat and More.....

Fat Daddy, I just had the exact same thing happen to my large rooster. He was close to 12 lbs. I found him dead in the morning, laying on his back. No marks, no signs of illness prior. It's a tragedy. He was hugely wide across his back. I have two of his sons, but they aren't as big.

Dehydrating eggs for long term storage

Yes, he is a handsome fellow. I had one like him too this year, from the group I got as eggs from you, but he was not as chunky though. I did get some really chunky girls though, that will be in my breeding pen this year!

I must say that when I took my birds that I hatched from BigMedicine's stock, the processor couldn't get over how well built for heritage birds at 4-5 months were. The young cockerels were dressing out at 6-8 lbs. I free range my birds, and feed organic starter to them. Then when I told him...

Yes, I see how that would be an advantage for breeding purposes. Yes, a backyard sustainable meat bird is what I want to keep going. Thanks.

Thanks to your great start. I'll keep a couple of the nicely built hens, about 5. I also have some chanteclers that might be nice to cross in the future. Many of the chanteclers get quite large. I could possible use them in the future with a few hens, to diversify lines. I would sure like...
