    Speckled Sussex Rooster

Thanks for the info 3riverschick. I'm just getting started and really haven't studied up on breeding. I had 6 males and picked the 2 I thought were the best. According to the breeder I got these from they are from Reichert and Overton lines but I'm not sure how far removed they are.

    Speckled Sussex Rooster

I've read the SOP. What am I looking for with body type? Long back? Big and full body? What appeals to you about #2? I agree that #3 does look scrawny. From the front and top he looks thinner. Sorry for the bad pictures but chickens don't make the best photo subjects :)

    Speckled Sussex Rooster

Caught a picture of both of them together. I think #2 is in the front and #3 in the back.

    Unabsorbed Yolk?

Never got any better and seemed to have other problems so I culled it.

    Unabsorbed Yolk?

Guinea fowl hatched yesterday with reddish thing hanging from between its legs. It is not a prolapse from the vent but is lower and probably the navel. Seems to have gotten smaller since yesterday. Do you think it will dry up and fall off or do I need to cull? Any advise appreciated...

    Chocolate Orpington Gender

I've heard about the tail being a fairly reliable sign but I haven't observed it with my birds. I have some with obvious red combs and wattles and early tail feathers and some with pullet looking combs and no tail feathers?

    Unexpected Color on Cross

Well the 2 white chicks both look to be boys. I know they aren't sex linked in the 2nd generation but I still think the 1st generation sex link is the mother. They don't have the grayish hue my 2 splash Orpingtons have.

    Unexpected Color on Cross

I wonder if JG or BCM carry yellow leg genes? Both the rooster and the JG are from a local breeder that I trust wouldn't cross like hatcheries. What about the SLW? I would expect pattern and a darker color (not white) from this cross though.

    Unexpected Color on Cross

Yeah I know that the sex link characteristic wouldn't work for 2nd generation. Do you think that the white would show from the RSL hen? Here are the hens I have: RSL (very probable) GLW SLW Dominique NHR (hatchery, so probably production red) Cuckoo Marans (wrong egg color) Blue CM (wrong egg...

    Unexpected Color on Cross

I have a blue copper marans over what I think is a red sexlink hen. 2 of her eggs hatched and both chicks are white with some faint black spots and some copper leakage on the head. I wasn't expecting the white coloring though. They are a week old a feathering in white on their wings. I'm 90%...

    Marans Sex Link

What about feathered legs? The cuckoo is clean legged and the blue copper are feathered. One of the chicks has feathers all the way down the leg and toe and the other one has feathers just on the leg.

    Marans Sex Link

Well I guess there could be blue ones. The only for sure ones would be cuckoo males and splash BCM. When we mix B/B/S and cuckoo I get confused....

    Marans Sex Link

That's what I was thinking. I guess any blue or splash will be 100% BCM.

    Marans Sex Link

I have a blue copper marans rooster and 2 blue copper marans hens and 1 cuckoo marans hen. One of them is hatching eggs and I'm wondering if I can tell the chicks apart. From what I understand, the cuckoo would produce a sex link chick per...

Hatching Eggs!!!: 40+ Breeds to choose from: Starting at $3/each

I ordered 8 Speckled Sussex and got 15 in the mail. 4 had bad air cells, but 11 of them were looking good at 10 days! Hope they all make it to hatch. So far I am very pleased with these eggs.
