I also just bought from Tractor Supply last nigth 6 Red Pullets. Since I am doing this I might as well have a bunch to make sure I don't end up with a bunch of roo's and a few hens.
We had 6 hatch successfully. It has been a very interesting adventure. I will take pictures and figure out how to post them on here tonight. Gosh they are so cute! How many dhicks do you have? Did you hatch any this season?
Thank you to all of you for your comments! I ended up putting a band-aid around it legs yesterday and put it in a small bowl. It was funny how the other chicks pushed the chick out and hoarded the bowl! They loved it! But anyways, with coaching it and everything, it is now standing on its...
It doesn't seem to have splay (as its decribed). I will try the tea cup idea, that sounds good! The other chicks are cuddling with him and laying on top of him, so that may help in more ways than one.
I have a 2 day old chick that will not stand on its own. It's healthy. While holding it, it had a bm/urine. It will kick and push off my hand. I will stand it up and put my fingers on the sides of it to give it a chance to get its balance and stand. It will, and I thought I was making...
What was your out come of this chick? I have a chick that is doing the same exact thing! Seems very healthy, just can't stand. It will put pressure on its legs against my hand, but will not stand. Just lays on its side and kicks around. I am really trying, another one i thought was like...
Awe! Thank you for remembering me! They are doing good! Out of 14 eggs, 9 are fertile. Today is actually their due date! I can't wait. They have been in lock down for the past 3 days. I checked this morning for any attempts in break outs, but they wasn't any yet :(
brahmabreeder and blzzrdqueen Thank you! I am a little anxious. This is my first time incubating eggs. Actually this is the first time I have done anything with chickens. I am very EGGcited though. 21 days can't come soon enough. I will candle them at 10 days, and probably every day in...
I see in a lotof the pictures on here, there are veins running through the egg. I have candled mine and there are dark shadows for most of the egg, but no veins. We are going on day 5 now. Is this normal? They are brown eggs from Buff Orpingtons.
I got an incubator and eggs from a lady. She kept the eggs at 60 degrees for less than a day before she gave them to me. I had the incubator set up but only at 95 degrees. The humidity wasn't where it should have been either. This is day 3, is it too early to candle the eggs? They are Buff...
A lady gave me an incubator to use and she gave us 14 eggs to hatch with it. She kept the eggs at 60 degrees (im thinking for a day) until she gave them to me. When I got home the incubator was at 95, but I put the eggs in anyway. At day 2 I finally got the temp to 99.5 and the humidity...
