I have 15 meaties, and 2 turkeys.
They are all 6 days old.
I ordered them from my local feed and grain store.
They get their chicks from townline hatchery.
I figured it would be ok to brood them all together.
But one of the turkeys seems to be weaker than the other one and I'm worried...

Uhm, that was TV. Not necessarily real.
The program is called Dirty Jobs. Its like a documentary to show some of the "not so pleasant" jobs some people have in our society to make life easier for the rest of us. They may have edited it to make it seem he learned it quickly. I don't...
I'm no expert. I've never tried it. I would be afraid to try it .. but.... a few months ago I saw a program on the Discovery Channel. They were at McMurray Hatchery sexing baby chicks. The host Mike Rowe was taught how to do it in a short time. I think it is something that has to be...
The babies are now 7 weeks old. They had been sleeping on the floor in deep straw I put in for them but now mama hen wants to sleep on the roost and they are still trying to get under her. They look pretty feathered out to me but mama hen is very patient with them and lets them crowd all...
Yes momma hen is a barred rock and this is the first time she has gone broody. I actually tried to break her of broodiness at first. Then when I ordered my chicks I thought I would give her a few eggs to hatch out and gave them to her so day 21 would be the same day my chicks would arrive at...
I have a hen with 12...2day old babies. She took them out into the covered run today and they have been out all day and still out there. They are all in a corner under the mama hen. She clearly wanted them to go inside but they didn't go in fast enough to please her so she would come back...
We have a new problem! The adoption went well and today she took all the babies outside. I enjoyed watching them interact. She is very caring to all of the babies. But now it is dark and she was unable to get them to go inside. So they are all together in the run in a corner.. under...
I Just wanted to give you all an update on the adoption progress. Last night we managed to get all 10 babies in the nest. When we checked this morning we only saw a few babies peaking out from under mama chicken. But now it's 11:20 am and they have been out of the nest, eating and...
Just to update...DH came home and helped me put the babies with broody mama. She seems to be ok with them but really she's not doing much but sitting on them. The babies seemed to instintivly tuck under her pretty good. DH got pecked a few time but nothing serious.. he's so brave, lol. I...
I couldn't do it during the day because she was out of the nest when I got home from work chasing the 2 babies she has around the coop. Today is day 21 so i'm pretty sure they hatched today while I was at work but they may have hatched yesterday although I didn't see them as she was on the nest...
Ok.. I just want to say thank you for all the information and reassurance. I wanted to add some pictures to show what i'm up against. Also I want to let you know that the hatchery chicks have food and water and have been eating and drinking really good. I also have provided chick size...

This broody and 2 babies are in a seperate coop from the rest of the flock. They have connecting runs but and will be able to see each other once the babies go outside but do not have access to them. The only adult bird that will have access to them will be the mama chicken. Right...
ok.. so I need to do it in the darkness when she's sleepy.. I can wear gloves and longs sleves so she doesn't peck me.. It is very dark and I would think I would need a flashlight so I can see what I'm doing. Would the light from a flashlight wake her up enough to become aggressive? Or do...
I'm kind of wondering if I'm asking too much of her to take on, giving her 10 on top of the 2 that have hatched? To be honest.. I'm kind of scared to do it, not only for the babies.. but she's agressive when I go near the nest.
I ordered 10 chicks from my local feed store. I knew the exact day they would arrive. I just happen to have a broody hen and decided to let her sit on a few eggs and let her have them and timed it out so they would hatch on the same day that I would get the 10.. one day old chicks...
I have a flock of 10 hens and one rooster...I've had a problem with feather pecking. I've increased their protein and given them a larger run. I would like to put some pine tar on them so I purchased a can of it. I'm not sure how to get in on them. This stuff is incredibly thick and...
