Hello
I have a blue leghorn about 6 months old. She is the youngest in my flock (currently 9 hens, varying heritage breeds), along with her buddy, a Plymouth Rock of same age. Both girls were pecked initially, as expected. My blue leghorn has a HUGE floppy comb, even though she is only just...

Hi all
Sorry not to get back to you earlier - I took Lizzy to the vet on Monday, it's now Friday. He's a very expensive vet and I could have said no to everything, but she's a bit like one of my children!!
I don't have a rooster and on Saturday I saw the other 2 occasionally peck...
Hi Satay
But silly question - the garlic in the water doesn't affect their eggs and make them garlic- y? I've read - and was told - not to give them garlic in vege scraps for that reason? So you haven't had garlic tasting eggs?
And yet - my parents were watching gardening show on ABC the...
Hi all
Any advice for a sick chookie? I just thought my White leghorn Lizzy was moulting and was completely naive until yesterday when I suddenly realised that this was WAY more than moulting - she has patches of bare skin - looks almost plucked in places poor little thing. : ( I'm...
Hi appps
I think (?) you said you lived near-ish me in Sydney. I've been going to Enfield Produce because it's near work, I think they're great with their range and cost. I rang them out of interest and the man said he has antibiotics for cocci so if it's of help here's their contact details...
Thanks also moderators...
I think this is a very old thread - maybe there are more recent threads which do the same? I don't know and still find it hard to find the 'best threads' hence was looking at some of the FAQs, and also came to how you worked. I haven't been involved for long but do...
Hi
I'm in Sydney too & yes it's great the raing has stopped - for now. And my coop used to be a either a dust bowl or a mush pit til we paved it last Oct. (It's 3.6m x1.4m and wasn't too expensive.) It's made a huge difference. But even so, the tarp I have over the top was 2 years old and...
Hi blondie chick
I can relate to the turkeys getting in to my girls' coop and then flapping around .... it was quite funny when I was yelling at them and I must say, spraying water with my $7- target water pistol, but they just couldn't find the way out. So I had to calm down to help them out -...

Hi and thanks for both your comments. Your description is quite accurate - that they've become 'trained' to ignore their basic feed. Well, I just have to be patient and persist despite the fact they are very good at coming up to me (or my back door) and looking / and sounding very mournful...
Hi again
and thanks for both these replies : )
I must say your reply 'how funky' made me smile, I don't really eat lots of turkey, don't have a dog and definitely am not in to the idea of shooting them except with the water pistol, but you just captured my sense of frustration! You're right...
Hello to both of you
Thanks for your replies - and oh ... I must apologise - I just realised how strong my language was when I said I hate the bush turkeys... oh dear!! But you know the frustration you can feel sometimes when there's something that won't go away and it shouldn't be there...
Hello
I'm not quite sure how to 'interrupt' your conversation and I know I am coming on to the social page, but I really want to talk to some Aussies, and hopefully some in Sydney - so hello!
I have 3 gorgeous 2 year old chooks, as pets more than as egg layers, and I have 2 concerns at the...
Hi
I have 3 gorgeous chooks - pets more than egg producers. I really struggle to get them to eat their chook food - it's called 'layer's mash - a blend of grains and finer almost dust-size particles. They also get a small amount of budgie food each day with some additions recommended by the...
Hi
I live in a very bushy part of Sydney. The bush turkeys like to think that they live in our back gardens as well, and they come scratching around when I am not there to chase them away or yell at them. Most people don't like them because they cause a mess, but I really don't like them...
Hi and thanks for your input. What is layena? Is that what I call layers mash? Different words in different countries?
Yes, my girls love being out in the back yard - but they still act as if they are hungry on those days. Hmm.
Thanks!
Hi
Thanks for this great list of treats - really interesting to read. I'm still new to BYC and I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this qn, but this is one of my BIG concerns ...
My 3 girls are VERY fussy eaters. So many things on this great list are things that they just toss...
Hello and thanks for having me on board!!
I'm excited to be joining you - albeit from quite a long way away. Katie, Iddy & lizzy have been part of my life now for 2 years, and sometimes I feel like a parent maybe (?) feels. Love them to bits, and worry over their bad eating habits (fed them...
