I bought 6 pullets and all are growing fine and are all the exact same age except for one chicken already has a comb. It doesn't act different than any of the others but I wanted to know if anyone could tell if it was a rooster?
I have 3 white ones, at one a time had 4 but my dog got overly excited with one. Great addition to the coop. Eggs are almost always there when I come to collect. These guys are survivors through and through, even during one of our worst winters our ladies hunkered down and endured. Even in times...
Thanks for the article. We've had a sudden influx of warm weather here so perhaps it was enough to cause her stress. Our farm is pretty quite so not a ton happening. Now as far at the egg eater... We'll have to wait and see if she strikes again. None of the other eggs were harmed, so it's very odd.
I have 3 white Plymouth Rock hens in an enclosed run/coop who all lay brown eggs. 1 has been laying for about a year, the other 2 started fairly recently (past 3 months). I went out to feed and collect their eggs today and 2 were normal and brown, the other was a bright white egg which had been...
So last night was our first real gust of winter. Our youngest spring hen didn't make it to the coop fast enough and froze.
With Thanksgiving approaching and this being the first chicken that we've ever killed, it is safe to process it and eat it?
She froze fairly solid, should I toss her out...
Ugh!
Irresponsible dog owners allowing thier dogs to harm people's animals is simply disgusting!
Poor dog and poor chickens! The dog was being a dog, it's the owner's fault!
Sorry about your flock!!
I'm a new chicken owner and we just put the chicks out in thier coop today. And as I expected my Dachshund will stop at nothing to get to the chickens. We went to the store and got a shock collar to try that. Total bust! It didn't even make him pause! It was set on the highest level it could go...

I have two week old chicks from TSC and I was womdering what I could do to help make the transition to outside easier for them. I know to wait until the feather out but I want to start exposing them. My chicks seem to look at nature like it's a scary. Of course I understand they're babies and...
In the first picture the two chicks closest to the feeder are the ones with the shorter wings which makes me wonder if they are hens and the ones farthest from the feeder have the longer wings which makes me think they're roosters.
However it could be they're just different ages.
So I recently got 4 red pullets (all are Golden Comets) from my local TSC. These select chick were older by 2 weeks and on discount so I bought them instead of the younger ones. Well I recently moved them into a bigger brooder so they could have more space. And almost as soon as I did they...
