My hen went to live with other hens but now has to come home!

I posted last week about me loosing a hen and my roo to a fox and so we decided to give our other hen away (she's a naked neck). My friend has 4 hens (not sure of their age but just started laying) and she has only had them for 3 weeks. We took her over on Saturday and everything was great...

I posted yesterday that we lost our roo and 1 hen to foxes yesterday. Very upsetting. I have 1 hen left (she's a naked neck) and she's very freaked out. She won't go near the coop and has been at our front door since yesterday afternoon (I did put her in the coop to sleep). I am going to...

    Two gone!

thanks for the kind words. i know that i should not get so attached, but i loved them, they are so amazing and cool and eat from my hand, etc... i hope that you are right about 2 being unusual to loose in a 3 hour period. I also find it so amazing that a fox could take it without any feathers...

    Two gone!

are you serious or joking! Not funny. my roo is handicaped, when I got him (a farmer gave him to us) his leg was disfigured and he limps, doesn't move fast, can't scratch, so he's not just going to hobble away. And Rhoda no way. She is down by our door every day at 6pm waiting for her...

    Two gone!

Today we came home (were gone from noon - 3pm) and our hen Fanny was standing by the front door, looking a bit shell-shocked. Where was Rhoda, my other hen, who is always by here side. And my roo? Went up to the coop and they were gone, no feathers, nothing, they are just gone! I'm sitting...

so just read about a feral cat? Is this possible? 2 days ago we saw this black cat around our house, never seen it before and let the dog out to chase it away. But would a feral cat kill a big roo and a big hen?

How to tell if an egg is old?

OK - I feel like a really bad Mom. I have 2 naked necks and one has been laying since late December but then she stopped. Figured it was due to the weather, but everyone else in my area has eggs. Then I thought maybe because she was "free range" she was laying them outside so today I decided...

    help on what to feed

I don't know their exact age. One of the farmers down the road gave them to us first of November and told us they were just about ready to start laying (that's another post, because 1 gave us eggs until end of Dec and now nothing) and the other has never laid. Do you give them egg shells?

    help on what to feed

Hi, I have 2 naked necks and 1 cock (I am here in France). I went to the feed store and asked for chicken food and I got a 100 kilo bag for 20.00, but I think it's just scratch. It's like bits of corn and grains. So, I went to another store and got pellets. Do I put the scratch in their feed...

    Sleeping in the layer/nesting box!

i know, every time I go back to that area it gets bigger and bigger. My bil is named Marc and he's about 6" tall, dark hair super nice guy, he's been with UPS for about 20 years, as he's in his mid-late 40's. He and my sister (and their kids) live in Eaton Rapids.
