Homogonized Vit D milk is perfectly fine. I don't do calves, but I have goats. Most of the people who use replacer to attempt to raise kids end up killing them or making them very sick. Thousands of goat kids are raised every year on Vit. D cows milk. Look around & see if you can find a...
The miniature breeds are usually a cross of Nigerian Dwarf & a standard breed. Nigerians are famous for economy--more, richer milk per pound of feed. They also produce more kids. If you start with good quality stock and live in a normal community, you'll always be able to sell surplus kids...
I've been watching posts on another forum specific to goats. It's relatively easy to induce labor in goats, provided you know PRECISELY when they were bred. You give them the shot, 36 hours later they kid. No running back & forth to the barn all night.

It sounds like you may have ruptured the gall bladder. It's attached to the liver. It's best to remove all the entrails, then sort out what you want to keep--heart, liver, gizzard. The gall bladder should be carefully trimmed from the liver without allowing the contents to leak on anything...
Plamondon is located in Oregon's Coast Range mountains. Although they COULD get to zero, it's rare. I'll bet you THIS winter, he's closed up his coops at least once.

Any wooded area nearby? This is a pretty common raccoon scenario. I was wiped out--they'd carry off ten a night. Took days of scouring the woods to find duck parts.

Your best bet for show stock would be to check the ads in Poultry Press. Most hatchery stock is not going to be show quality. You'll have to find an exhibition breeder who shows.

Indeed, Muscovies do get in the water. But ducks don't HAVE to mate in water. Muscovies crossed with other ducks produce a "mule"--a sterile hybrid. In the Orient, white Muscovies are often crossed with white Pekins to produce meat ducks.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread, so I may be repeating what others have told you. Horse training is a skill that can be learned by the average person. It isn't rocket science. Yes, horses can be dangerous. Always be aware of that. That said, there's plenty of good information to...
The answer to your question is in "Farming, a Handbook", by Wendel Berry. And when people insult my friends, it does, infact, make me angry. What's abnormal about that?

Goats require a certain level of care. Before you consider bringing them home, you should make sure they're blood-tested for CAE & CL, although you may already be infected with your other goats. If these goats are purebred, they are tatooed. The tatoo numbers will be on the test results...
Not sure what forum you're talking about when you complain that the people are too mean. If it's dairygoatinfo.com, you're waaay too sensitive. The only difference is that many of those people are knowledgeable and professional, relying on their goats for some or most of their livlihood. To a...
How you raise chicks can make a difference. I'm sure the genetics have changed some since then, but when I was growing up, we always grew the Cornish cross broilers, and saved out a dozen or so of the best pullets. Put them on a little milder feed, and they went on to lay very well as a home...
Nasty little critters, possums. Egg-suckers, and vectors for nasty diseases, such as EPM, which kills horses. Live trap? .22 rifle? A good dog? If you are sure your pets are secure, a bowl of dry cat- or dogfood laced with old-fashioned ethelyne glycol antifreeze might work, too.

You need to learn a LOT in order to be successful with goats. BEFORE you bring one home. Visit dairygoatinfo.com, read books, find a reputable, professional breeder & get aquainted. If your not willing to milk twice a day, forget it.

In "Raising the Home Duck Flock" by Dave Holderread, there's instructions & illustrations on how to keep a swim tank cleaner. You're still gonna have to do maintenance, because in confinement, they just aren't clean critters.
