We start breeding at 5 months. It takes about 70% of the time. We breed at 6 months too and get 95% success outta 1st timers.
Because they're NZs we like them at a 7lb-ish weight at breeding virgins. Seem to get the best success waiting for the weight. Sometimes that weight happens by 5 months...

There are clues to purity if parentage is an unknown source.
Ameraucana have white skin and slate colored legs.
Bottom of feet will be white.
EEs usually have yellow skin and green, blue, brown...
I don't tan hides here but I know a lil age on a rabbit allows tougher skin and NZs come in 3 recognized and many other colors to work with. This could be beneficial in having options or a pain depending on litters colors...
I think both would work well if tanned well tho.

We have a very large rubbermaidtub I started this week. LOVE it. Just a big 30 gallon rectangle tub about 18 -20" high. Wal-Mart- $8. :lauThe covers snap closed but are not air tight so it keeps it breathing and keeps pests out.
