Our little flock of eight is doing very well, all the birds are happy and healthy. We do have one barred rock that is moulting right now. The poor girl looks kind of sad, but at least the weather has warmed up for her.
Make sure that the ball just at the bottom of the trunk is not covered up, if it is you might not produce apples with this tree. If it is covered up, you can uncover it and make sure it stays in covenant should produce.
I let mine free range in my garden, not many predators to worry about that my dogs can't scare off. The flock takes care of the garden pests and the weeding. Win win.
Here are the newest members of our flock just after we brought them home. They have feathered out some in the last 7 weeks. Pics to come.

I put a 4-8 foot piece of coragated metal between my coop and the fence of my neighbor with dogs. This has kept his dogs from digging. I guess that since they can't see my girls they have list interest. Bird dogs might be different.

I live inside the city of Syracuse, which will allow one rooster only. We are getting ready to add a couple of new chickens to our flock and wouldn't mind if one of them was a rooster. My problem is that I don't want to trouble the neighbors with a loud morning wake up call.
