*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Little "Bubba" still has no tail and isn't feathered nearly as much as the obvious pullets in the bunch, either the Orp or the NH pullets. No comb to speak of yet, but he's only just over 3 weeks old and Orp cockerels tend to be slow in that regard from my experience. Dare I hope this is just a weirdly feathering tank of a pullet? There is absolutely no comb at all, not even an arch.

The Orp pullet is on the left, NH behind.

Speckledhen, Where can I get really nice American orps.? I don't want the hatchery ones. I had two last yr. Both died before laying.

. I have never lost young hens like that. No disease was obvious. I would like to have two chicks or hatch some eggs in May.

Gloria Jean, I don't even know anymore. The last ones I got even from a breeder didn't do well. One wasted away just after she got to laying age and died. She just laid for a couple of weeks then began losing weight and then refused to eat at all. The other I still have. She is 3 years old and hasn't laid an egg in 2 of those. She bloats up, gets very ill, then perks up and seems okay other than being skeletally thin. She'll never lay another egg and I thought she'd be dead a year ago. So, I'm not sure what happened with this stock. I have my Nugget who was from the same breeder and she is about 6 years old now. And these two Orp chicks I have now are from a hatchery, though not the same one I've had birds from in previous years.

If you could reach Pine Grove (William Bennett in S. GA) he may have some Buff Orps. I got eggs from him awhile back and he sent a few Orps, though they were all cockerels.

Have Buff orps ready to hatch!!!!! This is so stressful! !!! I can't wait to make sure they all hatch and are ok!!! Love my orps!!!!

Any thoughts on gender on this one? Still early yet, I know. I think they're going on 5 weeks old now.
This is my little Nugget, who is so very sweet.
