I personally would be more concerned with what kind of stuff the Rhubarb was fertilized/sprayed with and it's proper washing. Yet it's unregulated and perfectly safe to use.
Though not technically a breed. I have to say I enjoy my black sex link. Very quiet and mostly docile. She didn't skip a day for 2 months straight through winter.

Our third chicken is a black-sex link. My son also calles her 'Uno', don't know why as I'd call a third chicken 'Tres'
Our first two are a Barred Rock named Lily, and a Cochin named Dinky.
I have 2 boxes for 3 hens. They used 1 for awhile, they now have decided to use cardboard boxes. 1 each in different locations. My they've trained me good.
Yeay!!! Must be a Cochin thing. I have had an egg 3 0f the last 4 days. They are small, but they are hers. Still a loooong time to wait considering the others have been laying since Oct.
Don't feel bad. My girls just know it's their job to feed our family. I politely thank them every morning when I collect the bounty.
I think they understand me anyway...
I had some with cracked shells. Thought maybe they were poking at them, but also noticed I didn't have much nesting material in the box. Adding a cushion must have helped because I haven't had a cracked shell since.
Okay, now I'm starting to wonder. I'm getting a dozen eggs a week from my Barred Rock and Black Sex-link, but the Cochin is still not laying. What gives? I'd send her to freezer camp but I want to make sure it's not a normal Cochin thing. She's over 8 months now.
If you're trying to sell it or give it away, does it have to be pure poop? Or can the coup bedding be mixed in it?
If it can does it matter what the bedding is? I tend to use dry grass clippings in the coup (just another way to recycle things).
Your 'neighbor' needs to keep their chickens off your property and out of the way of your dogs. Why do you have to suffer with their problem? They are being a bad neighbor and poor caretaker of their chickens. I agree that chicken dinner with your sister-in-law might be a good thing.
If you're...
In my very small flock (of 3) I have a Cochin, Barred Rock, and Black Sex-link. All have started laying 2 1/2 months ago except the Cochin. I have read that Cochins are slow to mature (got as chicks around Easter) but how much longer should I expect for this to happen? Or is it a time of year...
