I have 3 1/2 month old Barred Plymouth Rocks and New Hampshires from XW Poultry Ranch. Should i seperate the roosters into one pen and the pullets into another? I want them to get older before I start culling them for breeders. I would like to keep the fighting at a minimum. I am new to...

I don't know of anyone who raises good LF Cornish that ships eggs or chicks. Most sell only started birds.

[/quote I am in Middle Tennessee. Are amy of the breeders you know of close to this area?
Chickadoodles, thank you for all your information. I hope to find a good Dark Cornish breeder by spring at least. I plan to stick with Beltsvilles but according to whats going on spring 2015 i may try some Standard Bronze too.
I called him as well about shipping eggs in general and he told me be had stopped. I wanted some of his Barred Rocks and Dark Cornish. I ended up with XW Poultry Ranch Barred Rocks and they look great so far. If I remember right their birds come from Mr. Reese's and another line. As close as I...
I just got BPR chicks from XW poultry ranch. Should I be feeding them medicated feed? I started them on Flock Raiser and there doing well so far. Just looking for advice. Looks like they threw in a few New Hampshires as well. I really appreciate that it was very kind.
I have seven week old Dark Cornish chicks and i want to keep some as breeders.. At what age will they be developed enough i can cull out the freezer birds from the keepers?
I have seven week old lf Dark Cornish chicks i bought from a small family hatchery here locally. When will I be able to start lokking at them to determine if they are bred close to the Standard of Perfection? At what age roughly? I bought these to gain some experience with Cornish.
I recently bought some LF Dark Cornish chicks. I will keep some for breeding of they turn out to be birds bred to meet the APA standards. If not I will at least have some experience with Dark Cornish and some meat. At what age can i start culling them as far as the body shape and so on is...
Bee, Ken Weaver tells me all the time how good his White Rocks lines lay. He pegs his strain from XW Poultry, Jeremy Woeple at 24 eggs per month and his Blosl strain at 25 eggs per month.
Judging by the eggs Ken sent me, I'd say his XW strain lays a slightly larger egg.
All this blows away...
Properly fermented feed should produce good bacteria that is beneficial to the bird's digestive system. In my experience the birds eat less, waste less, drink less and have less poop. They look healthier as well.

If you want to try wet feed why not fermented feed. You can take for example layer crumbles and soak them in water. You let them set where air can get to them and in a few days you will see bubbles from the fermentation process. If you add a few ounces of unpasteurized apple cider vinegar with...
