I have now moved the chicks and ducklings into our boot room which is a bit colder at night than the other rooms in the house...just to prepare them for going into the coup. I'm still using the heater but only just at night now. The chicks are well feathered now, hardly any fluff left...lots of...
Yeah, keep positive. My chicks are well covered with feathers now, still some fluffy down on their heads but nearly ready for the main coup I think. I'm just a bit worried about introducing them to my adult hen, Pie...whether she will peck at them and hurt them is the main concern. Thought I...
Sorry to hear the rest haven't hatched. Perhaps it just wasn't to be. At least you have some to be getting on with though. Maybe you can get another batch on the go?
My 2 little ducklings having a swim in the bath. They now have names, Flash and Smokey. Smokey likes to dive under the water and pop up at the other end of the tub!
I've still got 2 eggs in the incubator...I have no idea when they were first produced so don't know when they're due to pop! They probably won't but just keeping then in there and turning just in case. Can't see any movement so may come to nothing. The chicks and ducklings that have hatched are...
I thin they can go quite a bit further...don't lose hope...if the oths popped out then you've done the right things. It could be the others were produced on later days and will just take a bit longer. Can you hear any chirping or see movement?
Still feeling sad about Smallie. I have had adult...
Aah...they look really cute. I think the kitchen paper is fine. Personally I would put chopped straw under the paper then just change the paper as and when needed. I only have the paper on the main areas they use, like under the heater and under the feed and water. Mine have started to scratch...
hurray...well done Ahmedamir!!!! Very pleased for you! I bet you are now egg watching like mad. Your first chicks look great. The only thing I would suggest is maybe something in the bottom of the box to make it more grippy...looks like it might be a bit slippy and not very cosy to sit on when...
Mine stopped moving on the that few days...they were wobbling around before that. I think that's normal. You should start to get your first pip soon, mine was day 21 when they started.
Chick 5 (Smallie) is still going, hasn't really grown any and it still quite unsteady. I saw food in its crop...
chick 5 update...still here this morning. Still very unsteady on its feet but can stand up for long periods of time. I added a little sprinkle of caster sugar to the soup. It is pooping ok. I'm still a bit worried about the little black lump...pretty sure its what is left of the yolk sack. I...
Thanks Azer, might try the sugar water trick tomorrow.
Chick 5 is still with us...just about! After the last feed I gave it a little shallow bath in warm water just to clean its bottom regions and check its vent was clear. It had some poop stuck on so I got rid of that. It also has a sort of...
ok...update on chick 5. Found him/her this morning away from the heater lying face down, not moving! It felt cold but as soon as I picked it up it took a breath...so begins a full day of nursing. I give it a gentle rub to get the circulation going, warmed up in my hands. It started breathing...
