    How old is this Chick??

I think maybe hens need about 3 wks of sitting on eggs (she could sit on her own and others, or make fake eggs out of balloons filled with flour, or sand or something kind of heavy, that won't rot, inside a fake plastic egg), and then take those "eggs" out (unless she had real eggs) and put in...

NEED ASSISTANCE: Just hatched my first egg by sheer luck, now what?

I had that happen once too. It's a very exciting time... But on the serious side, you should probly put a 1x4 on the front of the nesting box, so baby doesn't fall out. Mommy will get her down when she's ready. Otherwise, keep her and baby away from the others till baby is at least 3 wks old...

    Help Please

I would say if you're gonna help, now would be the time... I would start by candleing the egg. If you see an internal pip, go ahead and artifitially pip a small hole in the air cell of the egg. Let it sit for a couple of hours. If you hear cheeping or chirping in this time, this is good. If...

Holy Exploding Rotten Egg in the Incubator Batman!!!!

Yuck! Well, I would say you need to get that clean, pronto. I have a mixed clutch meaning, my son decided we 'must add more eggs' two weeks after the others were set. (little farmer already <3 ) So the first set hatched, and I put the remaining eggs in a soft towel lined bowl to keep the heat...

No eggs hatched, what to do next??

Day 27? First you need to smell her and the eggs. If there is a smell, you should probly take them away. Then I would candle some. There should DEFINATELY be some chicks by day 27. I'm not sure I'd even do an eggtopsy cuz if they're rotten, and you poke a hole, even in the air cell, the egg...

Complete newbie! Do I sterilize my eggs before placing them in incubator?

Well, ya gotta turn them 2-3 times per day... But no. Don't put any excessively dirty eggs in the bator, but don't wash them. Farm fresh eggs sometimes get poo on them. It wouldn't be any different than the broody hen taking care of them. She probly wouldn't throw one out cuz it got poo on it...

    Temp spike, dead eggs?

Awesome... We had 13 that hatched. So out of 30 eggs, that were stored for two weeks, and had 3 high temp spikes, we got 13! Phew! Ok so 5 days later, Lucky 13 was not so lucky, but we have 12 left. A couple of them were backwards in the egg, but I knew that before they hatched, cuz the air cell...

My hands are getting itchy...can't sit on them much longer.

How's the humidity in the incubator? I don't know what the actual percent was in mine, but the plastic windows on the top had no condensation and it had already taken my pippers 24 hrs to try, so I sprayed a little warm water over the entire contents of the incubator. I think it helped, cuz with...

    Temp spike, dead eggs?

I looked in the incubator this morning! There was 7 little yellow chicks! I looked again an hour later! THERE'S 10!!! And another one has pipped and chipped a hole! I'm so excited! The temp spikes didn't kill them! There's one that the umbilical cord isn't ready to come off yet and the oldest 2...

One of our hens just hatched her first baby chick! What do we do?

We have a coachin (if she weigh's a pound I'd be surprised) hatch a chick last year and the big white rooster overpowered her and killed the chick. I don't know if this is normal or not, but I would separate her and her chicks from the rooster. The hens probly won't bother too much. MaTanner1

    Temp spike, dead eggs?

Yes, Wabbit, thank you... Our norm is about 75 during the spring without ac or heater, but it fluctuates depending on the weather. We don't really like to run the ac or heaters if we don't have to; cuts down our utility bill. Yes, I will wait they were collected from different days and stored in...

    Temp spike, dead eggs?

That was the temp of the house... The incubator temp got to 106, I think maybe because the house got so cold on those nights. The usual temp for the house is about 75... MaTanner1

    Temp spike, dead eggs?

Ok, so the temp in my hovabator spiked 3 times during this last 3 weeks. Not sure why, maybe cuz the house got cold? (62-65 degrees) Should that have mattered? The incubator was bought brand new this season. That being said, out of the 36 eggs, 5-6 were added a week after the first. I have...
