    Help me identify these chicks!

We have three, darling, week and a half old chicks. Not sure about the breeds and genders...could you give us your ideas? Thanks! Here is Chick #1. Her name is Good Queen Bess, not sure what we'll do if she is a rooster ;) One thing we noticed that sets her apart from our other little yellow...

4-day old chicks and momma scared after dog tried to get to them...signs of stress?

My mama R.I.R and her 3, 4-day old chicks were out in their fence when our puppy escaped from her yard and tried to go after them. She barked and went near the fence but did not end up clearing the fence. Mama hen, needless to say, was freaking out and flying at the fence. After we got the pup...

Have a hen with day old chicks, can I introduce more??

I have a small coop with one hen and 3 babies that she hatched yesterday. I've read about introducing chicks to a broody hen...just wondering if there is any way I could purchase a few more chicks and get her to accept them? Will she "adopt" them along with the three babies she already has? If...

How to "Mark" Chickens for Identification

Love the idea of the cable ties...I would just be worried about them growing while I was away, and the rings getting too small on their feet... I've been thinking about fingernail polish myself as well...maybe we'll give that a try! Thanks :)

We will have a momma hen and babies coming in later this week. They will be a gift from a neighbor, we anticipate they will hatch tomorrow and we will get them when they are three days old. How can we make sure these chicks grow up to be well socialized and used to being handled? They will be...

How to "Mark" Chickens for Identification

Our chickens will be staying with our neighbor a few months this fall while we are away from home. She has around 70 chickens, and we will need to be able to tell ours apart when we pick them up again. They are young, so they probably will have grown some during that time while we are away as...

    Juniper/ cedar berries?

There are cedar/juniper trees (not sure which ) over the area we will be putting our chicken run. Not sure if the berries dropping into the run would be a problem. Does anyone know if these berries could be harmful to chickens? Thanks!

    Howdy :)

We are completely new to this whole chicken thing, and I was so grateful to stumble upon this website! A neighbor has donated a coop and has a brooding hen who is sitting on eggs. She has offered to give us the hen and chicks as soon as they hatch; probably this Monday! We're a little excited ;)...
