Okay not an illness, not an injury or emergency. But chicken hygiene? We adopted a new pullet and she came from a dirt run with lots of other chicken and she STINKS. We have had her for about 2 weeks and I even tried giving her a partial bath with pet shampoo to see if it would help but it...
I’ll wait a few more weeks to be certain. Kinda of a bummer if it is a roo. We aren’t supposed to have roos where we live. And this one is one’s personality has been of the favorites ever since they were a week old! Maybe we can hide him as in indoorcat if he stays as docile and cuddly as he...
I am seeking advise for my poor EE, Lady, who appears to be the victim of a bit of bullying. She's missing feathers from her lower back/base of her tail. And now she hasn't even laid an egg for over a week. (she used to lay 5 times a week) I have whitnessed over and over again Cleo, one of our...
I'm new at this so I wont be much help. Mine removed a fake egg and I found it it the run. I also found two buried in the nesting straw. Later those same two had been pulled back into the middle of the nest. For mine it seems almost like a personal preference.
Man! I hope we get some jumbo mutant eggs! Our girls are just starting to lay and all true eggs have been tiny (under 1.5 oz, (large eggs are around 2.25-2.5). While for their sake I'm glad their eggs are small a and normal I kinda wanted to see some fun variations.
Our EE, Lady, just laid her first egg today. It was the palest blue. It almost looks white unless its next to something white for comparison. Will her egg color get any more blue or is this first egg an indicator of how all her eggs will be? Our BSL's first 7 eggs have all been identical...
One of our RIR, Cleo, has decided she wants to pluck the feathers off the rump of our EE, Lady. We have 4 chickens and Cleo seems to leave everyone else alone. Odd part is that up until recently we would have said Lady was at the top of the pecking order...now not so much. They will just be...
Thanks for everyone for your input, its much appreciated! We were able to expand the width by 2 feet which gives me just over 10 feet per chicken. I think 6x8' will be an acceptable size run for our 4 girls.
Okay, newbie here asking the same question everyone else has already asked. How large should my outdoor run be? I have 4 standard size Hens. I read on here about 4-5 square feet per chicken, but then I have read elsewhere about numbers up to 12 square feet per bird. We have a coop that is...
I just came across this thread, I feel like it would make the cutest little book. "The adventures of Grete:l a collection of short stories" or something of the like. You should write it and get it published.
Here is our EE "Lady Hawk". Such a sweet chicken. Loves to sit on your lap (or should or head) if you sit down outside she(?) comes running looking to jump up on your lap. I keep going back and forth on if she is indeed a she. My fiancé is comfortble she is a SHE but in the past week or so...
This is our 4.5 week old EE. Since she was about 1-2 weeks old or so has made this shrieking noise. So much so that in combination with her colorings we have named her Lady Hawk. The "cry" she makes reminds me of a bird of prey shriek. Its very loud and while this video gives you an idea of...
