I am so glad I found this thread. We were contemplating doing away with the chicken who is pulling feathers out of all the other hens and even the roo. I have ordered the beak bits and will give them a try. We only have 9 hens and a roo and really didnt want to do away with one of my best...
Yesterday we got our FIRST egg!!! actually we got 2 one was perfect ...a bit small ...but perfect...the other had no shell just the membrane. I was worse than a kid on Christmas morning. So happy to see that little egg in the nest box!!! I know I am so pathetic LOL

Thanks everyone ....I feel just awful about the ducklings this morning but I did go to the Wilton TSC swap today and bought 2 of this years early spring ducklings. They are HUGE!!! and appear to be making themselves right at home. We will be making some "modifications" to their accommodations...
I am SO upset! went out at 4:45 am to let my chickens out and found that my 2, 8 week old ducklings were missing. 3 or 4 blood spots were found once the sun came up but no holes in the fence, no pile of feathers, nothing. Not sure what got them but they are gone!

I am tickled. Last night my HUGE flock (of 6 birds) 5 out of 6 of them put themselves into the coop. I have had to pick them up one by one and place them into the coop but last night they finally got the idea. VICTORY LOL
Hey I am wondering what all you other "Mainers" think about diatomaceous earth. After reading the forums here some say they feed it to their birds, some say never to feed it to them, some say they put it in their bedding some say never do that....ALL VERY CONFUSING!!! What are you folks doing...

The swap at the Wilton tractor supply today there is a person who has some orpington roosters for sale for 5 bucks....if you don't want roosters perhaps he would know where to get fertile eggs or chicks? Just a thought
Oh I dont mind playing vet myself as long as i know I wont do any harm. and from some of the things that people do for birds is WAY different from the normal cat and dog things I am familiar with LOL
