    Square Foot Gardening Thread

My son discovered this ant colony mowing our yard. I threw the ball down for a size reference. This line of red ant hill is about thirty feet long overall. We also have carpenter ants. This unlucky worm didn't make it across the sidewalk:

The county says I'm allowed to have a horse, but the HOA'S say I can't?

If they put a lien on your property here and don't sue you for damages of some sort in time(pretty sure iits still 30 days here)then you can sue them for clouding of title. Liens are to protect their financial interest in property you may own. If you are not going to selll I wouldn't get all...

    stump gardening

Anyone else ever garden in a burnt out tree stump? I've been burning this stump out for a couple years by building a brush pile over it and lighting it a couple times a year after its had time to dry out. I regularly treat my compost pile to a dose of wood ask that I keep stored in a tin can out...

    New here! Hi!

I find it ironic that you want to keep out armadillos and ants. Deer armadillos and ants, oh my! That's a really tough one. I'm glad I don't have all that lurking around here, my little garden wouldn't stand a chance. Welcome to BYC.

Opinions on veggie garden walkways - need help

The only thing worse than shoveling all that gravel in by hand is going to be getting it back out when it doesn't work. I have a concrete slab behind the barn twenty five feet wide by seventy feet long and six inches thick. Long before I moved in weeds started in that first crack and now it has...

    Coyote not scared of humans

Most predators will sit a kill. On your first encounter you were probably viewed as a competitor. He learned all he needed to know about you from your actions and body language during your first encounter. If you go out looking for noises in the night around your coop you could encounter more...

    need help identifying this plant/flower.

I didn't notice ants but ill keep my eyes peeled. It just finished raining here, ill look again when it dries up. I don't tend this particular plant at all. Its on the back corner of the house and easy to mow up close to with the rider. Every now and then I sneak around there with some shears...

    need help identifying this plant/flower.

Sorry if its an easy one. It has a very bold beautiful smell and it is very dramatic when all the petals fall off in a short period of time. The Lilacs have turned brown. This flower blooms and when it is gone, the Daylillies will be coming on. They have little buds all over them now.

    Double Rainbow

I know this thread is old but I took this picture and did a search to find the right place for it. I just want to keep the forum clean. I found this thread easy. Its a shame there aren't more photos, I've seen a lot of doubles. This one looked better in person.

    MY first vegetable garden

I noticed you have pumpkins and carrots and everything in between. They all have different drainage requirements, but you seem to have planted them all in the same patch of evenly amended soil. Just an observation.

OLD TIME CUSTOMS -- Anybody else interested in what the Amish do?

The Amish deal a lot with this place where I'm at. I don't know who's buying and who's selling but you can see the breeds listed. I picked this up a couple of weeks ago when I was in there buying my daughter a used English saddle. Nice little country store. Breeds listed are:Rhode Island Red...

Worried about BYC! Anyone feel the same?

I cut through all the crap with a tool I found called the search box. Great for new people like me. I've been finding out all I need to know about chickens on this site. I don't have chickens yet but I'm in the research phase right now and I have plenty of other things going on right now but ill...

    Posting Pictures

I figured it out. Don't know if it was the same problem you have but my solution is this. Instead of hitting add photo icon and putting url in the box that pops up, paste the url directly in the same field you type the words to your post. Just like pasting a link to a webpage. Be sure to use the...

OLD TIME CUSTOMS -- Anybody else interested in what the Amish do?

I didn't mean to step on your thread. Amish don't have secret ways with regards to livestock or poultry as far as I know. They are like non Amish in a lot of ways. I'm sure they are just as opinionated as anyone else about these matters. When I go shopping at Meijer here, there are Amish women...
