Good luck trying to trap a coyote. Get yourself a donkey or a mule. They will take care of any varmints whether they be coyotes, racoons or just plain old dogs. The mule or donkey will stomp the predator into the ground.
My chickens wander around the horses pretty much all day long and love horse poop and whatever grain the horse drop while they are eating! The horse could care less, in fact every once in a while I will find one of them perched on the back of my 22 year old mare
O, ok thank you. I guess if I had a large number of birds to keep track of or something like that it would make sense, but since I only have 18 hens...
LOL I did kinda the same thing the other day. I put some eggs in my pocket and went about my chores, then had to run out for a quick errand, well when I hopped in the car I heard a crunch sound and yup, there it was scrambled eggs in my pocket. Oh well I guess that what washing machines are for.
My chickens are allowed out all day every day. They love it. They forage on crickets, grass hoppers and fly larvae most of the year, enjoy scratching through horse, goat and sheep manure for undigested tidbits as well as seeds and grasses throughout the yard. The only concern is foxes, but...

I hand milk my 3 twice daily. I have 2 nubian/boer crosses that give about 3 qts a day and an alpine who gives about 1 1/2 gallons a day. It tastes just great if you handle it correctly. I usually will add water to it to "thin" it out a little and make it more palletable for the...
I don't know if its the "right" way to do it but it works for me, I simply grind up the shells from the eggs we eat and feed them back my hens. I guess its kinda like recycling calcium?
I wish I were and expert? This is my second attempt with chickens and I'm just getting started (my first attempt about 3 years ago our dog ate all my chickens and then went to the pound). I bought a mixed load from McMurray and am really enjoying the benefits. I'm just learning and am here...
My hens are pretty much raised the "old fashioned" way? They stay in the coop all night long and I let em out in the morning. They forage (yes even in the winter on snow covered ground) in the hay stack, they follow the horses and goats around scratching through the droppings looking for...
