Pipped yesterday, just tiny hole. Today the shell is falling away when the already hatched ones roll it. About dime size is gone. Chick is still peeping and seems like he's trying to reach further on the shell.
No, sorry no pic. I've got to figure out the new phone. I don't have coconut oil either. He's still cheeping and seems like he's trying to reach a larger area. How long to wait before I help?
First attempt at incubator hatching. All eggs set the same day but chicks are hatching a couple a day. Today is day 23. I have one Wellie that has pipped, about a dime size of the shell has come away but no zipping and the membrane looks dry. He's still alive and seems to be trying to zip. I'm...
I'll see if he still has it. I have to go pay the rest of the bill tomorrow. I paid half last yr and half this yr so I can use it to reduce my tax liability in 2 yrs.
And Yep, I got just what I wanted.
I've drawn enough coop plans to choke a dang horse lol. There are a few things you have to decide first. What size? Walk in? Attached run with fence? Wanna get your eggs without going in? How do you plan to feed and water? Gonna use litter? What roost set up?
There are lots of things to decide...
I've kept my 9 in the building since Thu. Thought I'd have the fencing for the run up on Sat. but rain decided I wasn't. So, today, I took my expens and set them up with netting over it, attached to the building.
Couldn't get the buggers to go out in the sun lol.
I agree. The only way to keep coop/small run from stinking is to use litter. Hay, straw, wood chips, grass clippings. Something that you can clean out every so often.
I use deep litter. Just keep adding to it as it breaks down. Just moved into my new coop so I'm excited to see what I have in...
Well, if you are any where near a Mennonite or Amish community, mine is Mennonite built. Young man got a big kick out of talking to me about it cause I had all the angles figured, took him a pretty good line drawing, have stuff hoarded to go in. Reasonable pricing too.
I've been planning on this for 30+ yrs now. Gonna do it myself, scrounged and hoarder stuff that might be good. Everytime I'd get the fundage saved up, a kid would need something lol. Or, hubs lost his job to MX. Or, I got sick. So, we decided to just buy one as I've aged out of doing it myself...
Anyone with a greenhouse? My gh/coop just got set and I know I'm going to be bothering the heck out of everyone with all the questions I'll be having as I build it out.
Nah, they were teens when they started calling it that. They love picking on me for my need for sunlight.
I'm sure there will be lots of pics and questions. But I'm really looking forward to the build out.
My kids started calling it that yrs ago lol. I've been waiting over 30 yrs for it. Young Mennonite that build it for me laughed at all the stuff I had hoarded up for it and knowing "exactly" how I wanted it.
I'll take some pics of the inside of the coop area if it ever gets lightened up around...
Like other scavengers, if they are regularly fed, they won't eat anything that is poisonous to them. I've stuck about everything in my composter that they have access too and haven't run into trouble yet.
You could also set up a worm bin. Grind all the stuff you don't want to give the chickies...
It's finally here. 30+ yrs of waiting but it's here. Greenhouse/coop combo. Filling in the furnishings for both.
My 9 currently are locked into the 14x14 coop, learning that this is now home lol. So much better than the muck we usually fought through the winter.
My project for the upcoming years is to create camo eggs by breeding a Legbar over a Welsummer. Then, hopefully crossing some Australorp in to increase production.
The grandson is miffed cause I got a FCM for "chocolate" eggs for his older sister lol.
