The Trouble With Chickens: A True Story

Glad you found them! I just envision mine flying out over the fence and running down our street...or happening by a dog....so now they are "grounded." Safety first!

The Trouble With Chickens: A True Story

Thanks! They're resting snugly on TOP of the coop now. Oh well, they certainly have minds of their own!

The Trouble With Chickens: A True Story

Thanks! Unfortunately I had to add a roof to the run. We live in a neighborhood with lots of dogs on the other sides of fences, so too keep them safe, they'll have to roost in the coop-- NOT our tree!

The Trouble With Chickens: A True Story

A hard working mom had plenty to do, But she thought to herself, "I want to raise chickens, too." So she consulted her friends, that Wonder-Mom Lori, And ended up with some hens, but there's more to her story... "Chickens are easy!" her friends did all say. "You can care for them in just...

    Chicken Poop

I've looked at the poop chart and I still can't figure it out: my chicken is making flatulant noises and shooting a a very awful smelling, watery poop. I don't see any worms in it. Sometimes the poo is normal but often it's this watery stinky mess. Any insight, please?

    Chicken death...Contagious?

The other chickens were always very sweet to her. They would snuggle up with her wherever she was laying. I think they're white Wyandottes-- the other 3 girls are huge! Just not sure why she didn't mature and what went wrong. I hope the other girls will still be ok. Thanks for the condolences.

    Chicken death...Contagious?

They were born mid-may. We got our first 3 eggs this week, I think from our largest chicken.

    Chicken death...Contagious?

One of our four chickens died last night. They were all hatched the same day, but while the others matured, her comb and wattle stayed small and pinkish. Then she was very withdrawn, wasn't eating or drinking much, and weighed a lot less than the other three. I'm thinking whatever she had was...

My Pullet laid every day for a week and suddenly stopped

Good to know! One of my four pullets laid her first three eggs and then stopped two days ago. Hoping she'll start again soon, but I'm glad it's normal.

    Runt or something else?

Even her feet and legs are pale.

    Runt or something else?

No, it's not really red and it's still small. One of the other girls has a nice, large red comb that flops over!

    Runt or something else?

I received four chickens that were all hatched on the same day. I believe they are Wyandottes. One has just started laying eggs, while one of them seems to be a "runt." Her comb is still small and pink, she weighs considerably less than the others, and she often just wants to lay in the hen...

    Health Concern

I was able to get her to come out this morning and take a closer look. She's curling her right foot and her left a little bit, though not as bad. I couldn't see any sores or anything.

    Health Concern

Thank you, I'll try it! She's awfully young to be egg bound, but all four of these chickens seemed to mature very rapidly so I just don't know.
