Gotcha! Thank you all! I just bought some mix the other day to add to their feed and some oyster shells. I also finally moved my piggy turkeys into a new area.
I read the big post on here on candling eggs, and I have a broody hen sitting right now. It's been about 3 weeks and I've candled them a few times but I'm not seeing any veins at all. I've only had a hen hatch once before and saw veins clearly. There is no movement and a large dark section on...
Thank you! I'll check for black on their combs and wattles. Their coop has rat wire/a fiber mesh than chicken wire both on top and skirted under, it's possible a snake could get under but my turkey roosts on the ramp into the coop. Because of resident foxes, if they free range its maybe 3 days...
Hello!
Here are my ladies: -A 1 1/2 year old RIR
-5 red sex links, about 24ish weeks
-An 8 month Ayam Cemani
My cemani lays regularly.
My RIR Lil B was laying regularly unt about 5 weeks ago when I confined her to a coop. It's a large 16 'x 10 foot run with a building to accommodate more...
Ok,thanks! Two of them are fully feathered and two are missing some patches on their back still. I just got two bales of straw from the feed mill so I can make it super cozy in there.
I just picked uo a couple of 4 1/2 month old chickens to add to my flock, but when I went to the sellers coop I saw they had a heat lamp on them. I don't use a heat lamp in my coop, to prevent dependency so my question isn't about using a heat lamp for not using a heat lamp exactly...but how do...
Hi!
I noticed my favorite girl limping today when I went to let them out of the coop and found a scratch and swelling on the pad of her foot. It doesn't look like it has a plug or scab so I don't think its bumblefoot but I'm not sure? I've never dealt with any foot injuries. [/IMG]
I don't...
Fantastic, much easier than I was expecting! Thanks so much for the help!
I do free range my birds and then lock them up at night in the coop, they're pretty punctual with going in their coop around 8pm.
Hi!
So I lost 4 out of 5 of my hens in March and had been having a hard time finding birds in the area to add to my tiny flock of two. I've recently added a rooster a friend gave me, he's a lovely Phoenix rooster and my sweet girl Irene and him had a seamless transition. They get along...
I just lost 4 out of my 5 hens the past two nights, and it was pretty devastating seeing them torn apart. I had named and loved every single one of them. I wouldn't wish this on anyone and I'm so sorry you had to go through it too. It's really hard when you get attached to your chickens!
I just lost 4 out of my 5 hens, and I'm trying to figure it out. This morning I went out and had 3 of them dead with bites on the back of their necks and one torn through the middle, no missing parts and there were 5 untouched eggs sitting in there. I went back out this evening and one of them...
I think its a weasel or a mink. I came home from work and another one is gone, I'm down to one hen :(.
There are feathers everywhere leading to a small gap in the door, right past my two traps that are covered and have smelly tuna in them. Ughhhh. :(
Thanks!
It just sucks a lot because I only had 5 and now I have two and they seem so shaken up. If the traps don't work, I might camp out and see what comes along.
Hello!
So over a month ago I got some lovely Red Comets, my first time having chickens in over 15 years. Previously, my father kept them in a coop that has long since been torn down and it was located behind two large kennels (also torn down now) where he kept his hunting hounds. Fast forward...
Hi! and oh my goodness there's a lot of pages on this thread!
I'm getting my first chickens in over 15 years. I had them (on the same property) growing up as a kid but the coop my father had has long since been demolished and when we had it it was hardly used. A relative is giving me 5 10...
No worries! I have absolutely no construction experience, neither does the husband so thats what worries me the most about trying to make things as secure as possible. I've been on youtube and the forum for hours looking at plans, ideas, what other people are doing to keep things secure.
