I read the big post on here on candling eggs, and I have a broody hen sitting right now. It's been about 3 weeks and I've candled them a few times but I'm not seeing any veins at all. I've only had a hen hatch once before and saw veins clearly. There is no movement and a large dark section on some of them, what I think is the air sac is bigger in some and smaller in others but nothing else.

Thanks!

That egg looks rotten to me--as though the embryo partially developed, (I'd guess to about ten or fourteen days) and then died.
@Pyxis?

Thanks! Out of 26 eggs (some from other hens), none of them have shown any veins and it's for sure been past 10 days, no dark eggs.

If it had developed, you can still make out the feathers if you candle them at a later stage in development, at least with mine where the chicken formed but died....... with that egg, it looks like it's gone rotten.

Eggs that begin development and then die or "quit" are generally laid by nutritionally challenged hens, or else fertilized by nutritionally deficient roosters. Take you pick.

Gotcha! Thank you all! I just bought some mix the other day to add to their feed and some oyster shells. I also finally moved my piggy turkeys into a new area.
