@popsicle
Thank you very much for that. This is very disappointing, but nothing much I can do. I would have loved for all of them to be pullets, but I might just have to try another run of eggs. I was really pleased some hatched at all as this was my first go and I was not very precise with...
OH NO! How are you all so sure that all the barred ones are cockerels? Is it the combs/comb colour? And why the one have a black head spot, if it is a rooster?
As for the yellow chicks, are you all just going by comb colour/size or is there anything else that catches your eye?
A bit...
Oh dear, that is bad news. I might try one last lot before Christmas or get a few pullets. Knowing my luck you are all right and they are all roos. Why oh why?
Never mind, it was worth a go. Better luck next time. I was kind of hoping/thinking the darker one of the yellow one and the darker...
Thank you so much for all the replies, this has put my mind at rest a little. I am actually quite sure that one of them is a pullet as I've got two chicks, one had a white spot on its head and one had a black spot, meaning one should be a rooster and one should be a pullet and she is also doing...
Picture 1 and 2 there are actually in approximately the same order left to right. Brown ones left to right are in correct order and yellow ones left to right are in the right order, too. Hope this helps.
First of all, thanks for taking the time to look at my post. :)
And here it goes. Here they are at a few days old. The three dark ones hatched out of green/blue eggs. There are all some kind of a cream crested leg bar cross (don't think neither of them are pure breds). After reading up on it...
As the heading states, do all chicks fight or does that mean that my chicks are all cockerels?
This might be a really silly question. My chicks are 5 weeks old and recently they have started what I can only describe as cock fighting. This is in a playful manner and nobody gets hurt, but it's...
Yes, I would also say, put them outside. I have not got much experience, but mine are only 5 weeks old and one of them has been flying around since it was 3 weeks or so! He can fly about 3 foot high!
I would try and get them outside while the weather is nice. I started mine by putting them out...
Hi,
Here's a picture of my baby chicks. There are from two different lots of eggs. I know that the 3 darker ones all came out of green/blue eggs and have CLB relatives, although most probably not pure bred. As for the 2 yellow ones they came out of a brown and a white egg. Any clues? Or if...
@Habibs Hens
Thanks for your reply. Are you an expert at CLB and other breeds? Here's a pic of the rest of the chicks. The three darker ones are from the same lot of eggs as the dead chick. I presumed the darker ones are the purer bred ones, but I am clueless! I was going on the type/colour of...
It's either a cream crested leg bar or a cross thereof. Thanks for all the input so far. This is a real shame as this was my only fertilized egg that did no hatch. Still got two others that might not be 100%, but at least they hatched. I had never seen any movement with this one at all. It was...
Here is a picture of one of my baby chicks. I opened the egg on day 25 and there was no life in it. When do you think development stopped and is there anything obvious that tells you why it passed away?
Thanks. RIP baby chick.
Hi Sally,
Thank you very much for all your advise throughout the thread and sorry, I did not answer your question. I had a really busy week and although I wanted answers to all of my questions I was usually in a rush when reading through this.
I just candled the eggs, I didn't feel floating...
Hi,
I didn't want to read and run. I am no expert at all and have only just completed my first hatch. I also opened one egg too early (4 days after the last normal hatch though, on day 25), so my advise would be hands off! I would think, wetting the membrane and keeping the moisture up in the...
Just a quick update to say I helped the chick, but I am not sure if I did more harm than good, but I could not wait any longer as it had been struggling for that long and the last chick that hatched without any help was 4 days ago. Can anybody explain the time difference in hatching times? It...
Hi sharol,
Congratulations. Lovely little baby.
I am waiting on my last chick and it's struggling. Soon it will be day 25. Also this is my first hatch and I am clueless, so no advise from here.
I should start figuring out what my chicks are! I am no good with chicken breeds, I keep them to...
Update:
Ok, I am sure it is malpositioned. It's beak is at the original pip sight (ok, that was to be expected) which is well below the air sack line and it seems to be trying to pip lengthways further away from the air sack towards the narrow end of the egg. I have help it along a little...
misschickenlittle,
Thank you very much for your reply. I have waited quite some time now. Would you peel every few hours or as soon as you think the bleeding has stopped? I am just not too sure where to start peeling now? Go back to the hole on it's side? Where it had actually made a pip and I...
