Thank you for your reply. NO Roosters here!!I don't remember my girls molting in the spring just as the days are getting longer...HMMMM. I've upped their protein with meal worms. And I'll put out some ground egg shells for extra calcium. I really do hope it's just molting! There is no blood...
My mother wants to put her Fire Pit just behind the chicken house/run. I'm concerned about the chickens and the smoke. It's not like they'll be enveloped in smoke all day, as she'll probably have a fire in the morning for about an hour or 2. Will this bother the chickens at all? I do not want...
I have a phoenix chicken, probably about 5 months old. A couple of months ago she acted like she had toxins in her system and was very near death. But she pulled through. Then about 2 months later she got sick again (not free ranging anymore in my backyard at this time) so we thought it was...
Hi Trefoil,
She always ate the FF. And I'm not tube feeding her that...didn't even think of that....but I might just whirl that in the blender! I just don't see her eating unless I throw in scratch. But I will put in 2 feed bowls so maybe she'll feel okay to eat out of at least one if it's...
I don't know what she had. I was told she had symptoms of starvation, collar bone protruding, very light weight, lethargic, wings drooping. She quit pooping at night, during the day it was bright green. Her stools are now solid and brown, but I've been tube feeding her at least 3 times a...
She will eat the dry crumbles I put out if I put her in a cage with it, and goes crazy over the scratch. But their main food is fermented feed and I haven't seen her near it.
This chicken was sick for 2 weeks and I tube fed for 1 week. She's almost normal, back in with the flock, but I have yet to see her eat. (Never figured out what was wrong with her). I have seen her drink today. I'm sure she's eating but she's so skinny (1.5 pounds @ 4-5 months old) that I...
I have 9 girls. 2 that just started laying. 5 that are at least a month behind, 2 that may be longer before they lay.
I put out the ground chicken shells in a different feeder and they are all eating it like it's food! I'm assuming it's the new novelty of it! But should I wait to put it...
No I don't think it's coccidiosis after researching that. She is walking around, just not as energetic. No diarrhea. She can jump up about 18 inches to go to bed. Although if she gets on her back she can't get up on her own. And she did jump off her 18" platform 2 days ago and got on her...
She actually doesn't have diarrhea. Her stools are now firm. Originally they were bright green, but they've turned almost brown. So maybe she's mending???? Not sure what puffing is her body/feathers are not all puffed up. If it were coccidiosis will it clear on it's own?
Boy this girl is high maintenance! LOL (2nd time she's been sick. Full recovery from first time. Not sure what happened the first time either).
Pheonix, 1.5 pounds right now,
about 4-5 months old.
Been sick for about 1.5-2 weeks. None of the other hens are sick.
She presented with...
Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry for your loss. I guess it's just going to be a waiting game. I know of a friend whose chicken swallowed a small piece of a fire cracker and was nursed for a month but didn't make it.
I'm curious whatever happened with this condition? My 4 month old has the same symptoms. It's not an impacted crop, it's definitely the breast bone. She obviously isn't feeling well. Curious what you found out and if your girl made it?
