Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Glad I came back to the thread after the derpdate. I was in a panic (for several minutes) from the March posts until the one last month..... Glad Derp is well. Thank you Nambroth for keeping up with the thread!

Hello Everyone. I haven't been on since Winter! I hope everyone's summer is going well. We've dealt with some illness here, I think it was the wet cool Spring, for this area. Had a few losses, but not too bad considering no sickness in the 5 years I've had them. They responded well to the...

GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

@Poco Pollo I'd love to come back out if I could work it (doubtful at this point ). I'd like to pick up some more experience, and opinions. It was fun just to hang out with other BYC'ers.

Hello @maralpz2006 I was in touch with Sandhill throughout the Summer. They are the only breeders I have been able to find here Stateside! Sandhill aparantly had rough fertility, and increased orders, this year with their small flock of Dumpies. I was never able to recieve my order of Scots...

    Never Again! Meyer Hatchery

That is rough. I know how hard it is to have to break bad news like this to the little ones. This late in the year chicks, even from the hatcheries, can be hard to get. So Spring might be your best bet. Might I suggest finding some local breeders. It might be more fun for the kids, and...

GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

I am having the SAME issue with one of my guys! He is just so darn sweet and pretty, but he is ready for sure......not sure what his fate with be as of yet! I got some project Brahma males from a BYCer and there is one in particular (he's a Splash Brahma!) that may also become a pet LOL...

Yes that is more the size of what we had at the GH I worked at. Maybe one day I'll buy one from him and get some property to put it on!

GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

My Brahma capons look great when filled out. The precedure fills the breast nicely. These project boys will be gorgeous, I will post some pics later. Thanks for the pep talk, I definitely learned that it is better to put it off than to go through with it without the right tools. DH found my...

I worked for a locally owned Wholesale Greenhouse for 3 years. I shot my ideas for growing citris in this area to the owner with 40+ years experience. We surmised that you could safely go about 4 to 5 feet into the ground before you would lose too much light. With another 7 feet of GH above...

GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

Started on my three Brahma boys today. They are project gold-laced-blue Brahmas from a fellow BYCer, beautiful boys. #1 went smooth and is fully caponized. I was working with my DH's headlamp, lost the charge cord to mine and need to get another, it is much dimmer than mine. Well #2 I nicked...

Wow, we didn't get any of that rain here yet. We have a small chance tonight and tomorrow. The cooler weather is welcome, time to get ready for FALL! Always been my favorite time of the year. We have watermelon and tomatos coming out the garden still and the pumpkins are looking AWESOME. I...

This this a good winter coop?

My first concern is that plastic is not the best thing for a wall. It is not breathable nor it will hold in any heat or out the cold. Most breeds of chickens have enough feathers that suplemental heat is not needed although they can sustain frostbite to combs and feet in freezing conditions...

What do you use on them? I have been using Sevin and had good luck with small infestations, like a single broody. I am starting a good deep clean of my entire coop and pens....if the weather would cool off....a bit.

I was telling my father about the peas. He grew up with them and has been amused that I have adopted this hobby! Both branches of my families raised poultryway back when.... It's always some type of Pre-chick-a-ment or another (heehe the geek in me can't resist a good pun once in awhile).

Lots of new babies for the Fall! @sharol So glad you found your bird unharmed. I lost my best broody a week ago, never found a sign of her other than one orphaned chick. @chicken danz Hope you get to feeling better soon. Not sure if it was allergies or a bug that took me out of work...

Well things are starting to, if not slow down, then at least settling into a routine here again. Getting stuff done around the house is still a struggle with the DH out of his dominate hand. He is able to grip some things now, but has a long way to go regaining strength after losing so much...

Pics don't do those colors justice! They are so striking! I am going to give your project boys a few days to settle in before I work on them. What sucks is as soon as they start to trust me I will most likely lose it after the precedure, oh well. They will be pampered babies afterwards! I'm...
