Thanks for your reply!
I feel like it should be a federal law, because most laws governing birds are I'm pretty sure, but I don't find anything definite. Please everyone let me know if you are aware of anything recent.
Hi everyone!
I was was speaking with a friend today, and she seems to think that owning Muscovies is illegal. I did a few minutes of research, and I only find info that is dated 2011. Anyone know if it is currently illegal to own them? I hope not!!!
Don't worry, they're safe either way!!!
So frustrated! I tried mealworms and romaine tonight. Just not interested. I am certain that if I can get them into a routine, it could eventually matter less if my treats are especially exciting. But I was not really able to get them interested tonight. I even bought a bell today, thanks...
Hi,
I have 6 Muscovy ducks and 1 goose. They have a pond, and I have 2 houses that I can close at night for them. The ducks like to roost most nights or else stay in the shallow water, but we are hearing of coyotes and such in the area-and I really want to make it routine that they all go up at...
Thanks for your help. I am really in love with my ducks. I just wish they would go in the house with hay in it that I made up for them that is next to the pond. Its getting down to 7 degrees here on either tomorrow night or Monday night. Wonder if I should go out after dark and try to catch them...
Hi everyone,
Looking for advice on introducing-my friend and I split a litter of Muscovies in July or so. As it turns out, I have 4 girls and 1 male. She has 5 males and 1 female. Realizing that we probably have a problem on our hands, I have offered to take 2 more of her males. She could very...
I think I should offer to take a few of the male ducks from my friend-we are in a situation where a few more ducks would be fine-but I think I would still need more females. I just saw a Craigslist ad for brown barred muscovies-3 females(all of mine are black and white). They look to be about...
Hi!
My friend and I each took 6 of a litter of 12 Muscovy ducks(mom got hit by a car). They are just getting to the age where we can distinguish males from females-I have 4 females and 2 males. She brought it my attention yesterday that she has 5 males and 1 female! That seems like a bad ratio...
Thank you, gosh I'm such a whimp. I am a wildlife rehabilitator and babies die sometimes, I was just so attached to this guy. I'm not used to getting this torn up. A fellow rehabber called me earlier this week and asked if I would take 7 muscovy babies(we just got a pond). I don't think they...
Ok I went outside and he was dead, I was going to try as a last resort to get some amoxi down him somehow, I just founf that it is ok to give amoxi. But I am absolutely devastated, he was my buddy. If anyone has any ideas as to what it could have been, I would love to hear them. Thanks everyone...
Thank you. He will not take anything by mouth now-things were actually looking up just a little, and just for a few minutes I was at peace about it-he ate several crickets, drank water by himself, and all of the sudden he is totally listless. He will not stand, and he seems to actually be...
Thank you for your help. I am a mammal rehabber and semi new to ducks, but even the avian rehabilitators around here will not touch wood ducks. Period. They say they can't make them live. There is very little info on feeding wood ducks online or anywhere else, but he will definitely not eat...
Hi everyone,
I have a rescued baby wood duck, and just so everyone knows I am rehabilitating then releasing this duck(on my pond), even though I am so attached:)
I had a scare 2 weeks ago or so, it was niacin deficiency-and thankfully, with vitamin supplements that has seemingly righted itself...
I have a baby wood duck that is probably close to 3 weeks old-his mother and siblings were killed by a dog-anyway, I have read that it can be a challenge to get a baby wood duck to eat-but he eats like a champ-but will only eat bugs. So I have had him on a steady diet of meal worms and then...
